From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
I hope you all have had a wonderful summer break and have been enjoying time away from school. Rested and recuperated, it's almost time to kick off the 2024-2025 school year!
This week, the Student Leadership Team will begin preparations for Band Camp at Leadership Camp. We will meet in the Band Room at Glenridge MS Thursday, 7/18 from 8 AM - 3 PM. Wear clothing like you would wear for rehearsal, and don't forget to bring your packed lunch and water jug. Friday, 7/19 we will join the student leadership teams from other local high school bands at the South Orange Leadership Summit hosted by Freedom HS from 12 PM - 5 PM. Plan to eat a good meal before heading down to FHS on Friday. Please plan to wear WP Band gear!
Next week is when it gets real - Band Camp 2024! It's going to be a great time, and so good to get the Band back together. Band Camp dates are Monday, July 22 - Friday, July 26 & Monday, July 29 - Thursday, August 1. All days are 8 AM - 5 PM with our Mandatory Band Booster Meeting (all parents/guardians) on Thursday, August 1 at 6 PM, followed by the Premiere Show at 7:15 PM. All Band Camp rehearsals, meetings, and performances this year will take place at Glenridge Middle School 2900 Upper Park Rd, Orlando, FL 32814 due to construction on the WPHS Main Campus.
Sample Band Camp Daily Schedule:
7:45 AM Report to the GMS Band room
8:00 AM Full Band Meeting
8:05 AM Visual Fundamentals
12:00 PM Lunch
12:45 PM Indoor Music Rehearsals (small sections, large sections, full music ensemble), Dance rehearsals for Color Guard
4:50 PM Announcements & Dismissal
Be sure you're playing your instrument and getting outside leading up to Band Camp. A good amount would be 15-20 minutes a day with a focused warmup and some work on scales, long tones, show music, stands tunes, the fight song, alma mater, etc., and a short cool down. You could pick one thing from that list to work on for 15 minutes and then pick another for the next day. I would also recommend a walk at a gentle pace to get your body used to the heat and humidity. Whatever playing and physical activity you do now will pay big dividends when you get to camp!
Physicals and ECGs: All Band families need to check in to their student's status with FHSAA Athletic Clearance. Even if you believe you are cleared, please check your status as soon as you read this. The vast majority of students who are not completely "cleared" are simply missing a document or a page from a document. If you have not submitted your physical and/or ECG to the Athletic Clearance website, please do so ASAP so you can fully participate in all the fun at camp! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me. I cannot stress enough that this needs to be completed by every Band family as quickly as possible so your student will be cleared before camp begins.
Looking forward to starting the new year of BEATLEMANIA!

PROGRAM ADS & SPONSORS FUNDRAISER
Hello Winter Park Band Families,
Each year, students can participate in multiple band-led fundraisers that raise funds for the band AND earn participating students credit toward personal band expenses, including the fair share payment and travel costs for the band’s March trip to Chicago.
This week we are excited to launch the first fundraiser of the season: The Winter Park Band Sponsorship and Student Dedication Program. This is a fresh take on what previously known as the Winter Park Ad Program.
With this new program, students can sell multi-level Sponsorships that will deliver local businesses additional brand amplification beyond running a singular ad in the concert program. Depending upon the level of sponsorship purchase, companies will be able to have their logo and website shared on social media, in the weekly band newsletter and even on game night signage at Showalter Field. Students can earn up to 60% credit or $1000 max from each sponsorship they sell. There is no limit on the number of sponsorships a student can sell. Attached is a packet that provides further details on this new program.
Band families still have the option of purchasing an ad in the band program as a Student Dedication. This is an easy way to earn credit for your student. For example, a parent who purchases a full-page Student Dedication will earn enough credit back to their student’s account to cover their annual fair share payment of $255, minus $15.
Similar to last year, we will hold a raffle drawing for gift cards on the last day of band camp for any student who turns in a completed purchase form for either a Sponsorship or Student Dedication by the last day of camp.

Additional information will be shared with students on the first day of band camp, and parents will receive similar information at the first parent meeting. If you have any questions, contact Julie Capps at wpbandprogram@gmail.com or 704-258-3306.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting the Winter Park High Band!
Sincerely,
Robyn Fodor, Vice President of Fundraising

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
