MMS Weekly Update
December 1, 2023
This Week's Highlight:
As a review for the test on the Constitution, Mrs. Nelson's classes participated in an escape room. They had to work collaboratively to solve a series of various puzzles in order to get to the Constitution before King George could reclaim the American colonies.
Code Of Conduct Review: Attendance
Consistent attendance is an integral part of the learning process and vital to student achievement. Students are responsible for reporting to school on a daily basis. When a student misses 7 days of school, a letter will be emailed home. At 10 days of missed school, families will receive a phone call from an administrator. At 13 absences, families will be contacted for a meeting. At 17 days, a Youth Assistance Referral will be made. At 20 days, families will be referred for truancy to Oakland County.
Additionally, students are responsible for reporting to class on time on a daily basis. Some teachers define on time as being in the classroom when the bell rings. Whereas others define being on time as being in your seat within the classroom when the bell rings. Teachers have the autonomy to assign detentions for classroom tardies. Tardies are cumulative by class, by semester. Furthermore, if a student is 10 or more minutes late for class, he/she will be counted as skipping the class. Skipping a class results in a one hour after-school detention for each class that is skipped.
6th/7th Grade Only: Trimester 2 Grading Information
Skyward does not allow students/parents to view second trimester grades in both semesters. In other words, second trimester grades will be viewable for the last six weeks of the trimester (Jan. 29-Mar. 15) but are not viewable for the first six weeks of the trimester (Dec. 4-Jan. 26). Feel free to contact your son/daughter's teacher for progress reports. Students who have grades of concerns will be contacted by the teacher.
PTO News
PTO's first meeting for the year is Thursday, December 14th at 7:00p in the Media Center Gallery. Hope to see you there.
Do you want to support the PTO but are busy and would rather make one donation and be done? This is your opportunity to opt out! You may choose to make a direct contribution to MMS PTO in lieu of, or in addition to, other fundraising or donation opportunities. Please see the flyer for information.

MMS Book Fair
Book Fair
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires students on their journey to becoming lifelong readers - and every purchase benefits our school.
The big event will take place from Monday, December 4th to Friday, December 8th in the Library Gallery.
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/millenniummiddleschool1
