Another week in the books! Next week, students will be learning map skills. They will finish vocabulary and identify and practice different parts of a map. There will be two formatives that will assess their understanding of the map vocabulary and their practiced map skills.
Ms. Sagan, Science
What an amazing week, scientists! You did a great job setting up your binders on Tuesday and completing your first Roots Quiz of 6th grade – only 23 more to go! On Wednesday you began your Letter to a Science Teacher Rough Drafts and got some practice giving each other feedback through the rest of the week. I look forward to hearing nothing but good things from the substitutes who helped you with your assignments on Thursday and Friday.
Looking ahead, next week we will begin our foray into science with our Nature of Science unit. This unit will focus on methodology, and we will discuss the scientific method and how to design an experiment. We will also complete our Scientific Method Pre-Test; this pre-test will be taken again at the end of the unit to assess student learning.
Students will have their second roots quiz on Friday, September 13th. The quiz will cover the following root words:
Meter = to measure (think kilometer, thermometer, metric system)
Cent = 100 (think century, percent, centenniel)
Graph = write/draw (think geography, photograph, calligraphy)
Helio = sun (Greek) (think heliocentric, helium)
Terre = land (think territory, terraform, terrain)
Keepers (words from previous weeks that will be on Quiz 2) = uni, bi, tri
Ms. Patsalos, MLL Geography
Next week, students will be learning map skills. They will learn vocabulary words related to reading a map and practice using different parts of a map. There will be two formatives that will assess their understanding of the map vocabulary and their practiced map skills.
