Chester Elementary School
April 3, 2023. A Year of Significance!
CES Happenings
Dear CES Family,
April has arrived! This is a bit tough to believe based on the visual outside, but we remain hopeful that the snow will start melting in earnest soon. NOAA had this to say today in a special weather statement following news about more winter weather over the course of the next few days: "For those who are more than ready to say goodbye to winter, there is hope on the horizon. A drying and warming trend is starting to shape up going into the following weekend."
In the meantime, I hope you're able to get off the hill, see some green, and let your kids play in something other than snow. Get some exercise! All of us have spent way too much time indoors. Speaking of being healthy, I occasionally get requests from parents about resources on how to parent well. Good news for you: there is no shortage of great resources out there. Here's an example that was found after a quick search. Whether your parenting situation is challenging at the moment (we've all been there and will be again) or you just want to be proactive, there are plenty of resources on the Internet for your consideration. Also, don't feel like you're alone! Connect with other families and share your struggles. We all do better when we have a community of people to support us.
Thank you for the privilege of working with your children every day. We have amazing students!
A great weekend to all of you. Take care.
Sincerely,
Scott Cory
Principal

CES Goes Skiing!!!
Last Friday several of our grade levels got to go skiing at Coppervale Ski Hill. It was an outstanding day for so many of our students! Mrs. Twitchell said, "I've never seen so much engagement, determination, perseverance & focus by ALL." Our hats are off to her, Mrs. Bainbridge, and Mrs. Braun for making this happen, and also to the parent volunteers that supported this effort. Thanks also to Norm Anderson and his team for facilitating this for us with really reasonable rates and ski instructors to boot! As a point of interest: Coppervale has an incredibly long history in our area, going back to the 1930's. Check out their web page to learn more.
The Rise of Vaping
Yep, elementary school is the time to start having this conversation with your child. We have a district-wide coordinator for this sort of thing and she has put together a resource for our elementary schools. Click here, or on the picture, to access the March newsletter.
We are hiring! CES has an amazing educational team. We have been very fortunate to hire some great staff recently, but we still have immediate openings for the following positions:
- Nurse/LVN (full time, Chester/Greenville)
- English Learner aide (2 hrs./day)
- Paraeducator/Transportation Driver (7.5 hrs./day)
If you or someone you know works well with kids and wants to make a difference in our community by serving in our schools, please let us know. For details, please contact Principal Scott Cory at scory@pcoe.k12.ca.us. Click here to see current job postings.
