IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Students will be bringing home their Chromebooks nightly until further notice. They should not be out of backpacks to/from school for safety purposes. Please ensure that you send back a charged device daily.
- Please do NOT park or drop students off on East Sixth. This is a significant safety hazard.
- Cars are NOT able to enter the bus lane; therefore, please do NOT drop students off there.
- If your scholar arrives after 7:45 a.m. please park in our lot and check your scholar in through the front office.
- During afternoon pickup, please have your car tag on your dash so that numbers can be collected easily which helps in keeping the carline moving.
- Transportation changes MUST go through our front office staff by noon each day. Please email Ms. Jackson at kisha.jackson@fayette.kyschools.us
UNIFORMS
- Scholars are expected to be in GWC approved shirts and pants daily.
- Please ensure that you layer with a school-approved sweatshirt, if needed; otherwise, sweatshirts that are not part of the GWC uniform will be considered outwear and placed in cubbies with coats.
- Scholars may wear athletic wear on Wednesdays (tops and bottoms) if they choose. If they opt out of athletic wear, they should be in uniform (including khaki pants as jeans are only permitted on Fridays).
- On Friday GWC Spirit Day, scholars may wear jeans, but they MUST be in a GWC shirt.

25-26 STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT (SCOC) FEEDBACK SURVEY
It's that time of Year! We are sharing the family survey, linked below, to gather feedback around suggested changes for the 25-26 SCOC.
This survey will be utilized to collect feedback from families within the Fayette County School system on suggested changes to the 25-26 Student Code of Conduct. The FCPS Student Code of Conduct Committee meets during the month of March to review suggested changes and prepare recommendations for the FCPS Board of Education. The FCPS Board has the final approval of any recommended changes to the FCPS Student Code of Conduct. For more information, or if you have any questions, please contact Sara Pickering at sara.pickering@fayette.kyschools.us.
COMMUNITY & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
As partners with UK Athletics, we have an exciting opportunity to get discounted tickets to UK gymnastics meets. Please use the following link to access tickets to their home schedule and purchase tickets at a discounted rate.
UPDATE YOUR INFO IN IC
Fayette County Public Schools reminds families in the district to take a moment mid-school year to review and update their contact information, including an updated address, and language preferences in the Campus Parent portal. Doing so will help ensure FCPS can send accurate and timely information to parents/caregivers when needed.
*Please follow this LINK to the Reminder to Check IC Details page where you can also find the link to the Parent Portal Link. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL INFORMATION IS UP-TO-DATE!
BLACK EXCELLENCE SHOWCASE
In keeping in the spirit of celebration, we are excited to announce the 3rd Annual Black Excellence Showcase, which is exactly one month away. The year this event will take at Bryan Station High School on February 22nd, 6–8 PM.
Our goal this year is to have representation from all our schools as we celebrate the theme “Honoring Black Excellence,” which highlights the invaluable contributions of African Americans to our society.
APPLICATION WINDOW OPENING IN MARCH
Do you have friends or family members interested in sending future scholars to GWC? If so, please let them know the application window opens in early March. This is the ONLY time they can apply.
If they want to receive information, please have them reach out to Maria Wertzler, Our Family & Community Liaison, at maria.wertzler@fayette.kyschools.us. Ms. Wertzler is available to answer questions or provide a tour. It's never to early to start learning and discussing about a one-of-a-kind educational future at GWC Academy.
*THE APPLICATION WINDOW OPENs IN EARLY MARCH AND CURRENT SCHOLARS DO NOT NEED TO REAPPLY!
DENTAL VISIT
The dentist is visiting our school on March 17, 2025! The School Smiles on-site dental program offers convenient dental care for students right here at school. The dental team will be set up inside GWC and services are free to all scholars. If you have Medicaid or private insurance they will need your policy information.
If you would like for your scholar to see the dentist, please return the permission slip to school or register online at: https://schoolsmiles.com/student-signup/
PBIS DONATIONS
Would you like to contribute to our Dojo Store? Follow this link to our wish list. Thank you for all you do for our scholars!
ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year
