Back to School Newsletter 24-25
Welcome to the 24 - 25 School Year!
Dear Families and Community,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are thrilled to embark on this exciting journey with our theme, "Wild About Learning." This year promises to be one filled with incredible growth, discovery, and achievement for our students. It is with great pride that we share some wonderful updates and accomplishments with you.
Firstly, we are delighted to announce that our school has officially become a Cambridge school. This prestigious affiliation aligns us with a global standard of education that emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and a broad understanding of the world. Our commitment to academic excellence remains steadfast, and this new partnership will provide our students with even more opportunities to excel.
In addition to this significant milestone, we are pleased to report a remarkable 5-point increase in our academic achievement scores. This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, and students. We are incredibly proud of these achievements and will continue our relentless pursuit of academic excellence. Our educators are passionate about fostering a love for learning and ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
As we celebrate these successes, we also want to emphasize our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our school community. Ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for your children remains our top priority. We have implemented comprehensive safety measures and protocols to ensure that our school is a secure place for students to learn and grow.
Please trust that the amazing educators charged with instructing our young learners are prepared and committed to meeting the challenges presented by our current educational reality. They are motivated and inspired by their passion for teaching and learning and are eager to build strong partnerships with each family that will facilitate student growth and development.
Our collaborative efforts and steadfast commitment to our children’s success will ensure a productive and successful 2024-2025 school year. Thus, I invite you to take an active role in our school community by attending family nights and SAC meetings and by joining our PTA. Furthermore, if you are interested in volunteering on campus or for any field trips, you must be cleared as a volunteer. The website for the volunteer background clearance is https://www.browardschools.com/page/32043.
Our amazing Assistant Principal, Mrs. Gonzalez and I look forward to working with you and your children throughout the school year to help our students achieve their academic and social emotional goals.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are "Wild About Learning" and look forward to an outstanding school year filled with joy, growth, and achievement.
I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships, and collaborating with all of you. Having stated this, please know that I am always available if I can be of assistance. You may reach me via email at katherine.familia@browardschools.com or at 754-323-4950.

Safety
See Something, Say Something
Safety is of the utmost importance to our staff. All students, staff and visitors must wear an ID badge at all times. All visitors to BHE must check in through the front office. The first resource is the SaferWatch app. This app is supported by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and it allows individuals in Broward County the ability to communicate with law enforcement seamlessly and report any potential threats and suspicious activity. Visit http://www.saferwatchapp.com/broward/ for more information about the SaferWatch app. The second resource for reporting safety and security concerns is the FortifyFL app. FortifyFL allows individuals to instantly report suspicious activity to appropriate law agencies and school officials. For more information visit https://www.getfortifyfl.com/

Please remember these methods of reporting are NOT a replacement for calling 9-1-1, when there is a crime in progress or an emergency. BCPS encourages parents and students to be vigilant in reporting all suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities, regardless of your preferred method of communication. Working together, we can improve the safety in schools and our community.
Medications
If your child needs to take medication at school, please bring the medicine with a completed Authorization for Medication Form signed by the doctor. Please return the medication & forms to the front office.
Food Allergies
If your child has a food allergy, we must have a current doctor's note on file each school year. If the allergy requires a cafeteria food substitution, the note must clearly state what the replacement item should be.
