The Wilmot Word: August 23, 2024
A Great First Week of School!
Hello Wilmot Families!
Thank you to all of our staff, students, and parents for making this a great first week of school. We came together as we met our new classmates, practiced our expectations for common areas in the building and jumped into lessons and community building activities. Students loved reading the welcoming messages our staff left for them on the sidewalks as we "Chalked the Walk" for opening day.
We are off to a smooth start, and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year for our Wilmot students, staff, and families. I hope to see everyone next week for our open house events.

Open House
Wilmot will hold our annual Open House events on Monday, August 26 for parents/guardians of students in kindergarten-second grade, and on Tuesday, August 27 for parents/guardians of students in third - fifth grade. A specific schedule for each night is shared below. Please enter through the front doors near the flagpole.
We are offering something new this year for our intermediate open house. We will host a representative from the Deerfield Police Department (Lauren Maldonado, our D109 resource officer), and a representative from the Attorney General's office. We will share two presentations (one for parents/guardians of 5th graders and one for parents /guardians of 3rd and 4th graders) on student use of technology and internet safety. The 5th grade presentation will begin at 5:10 and the 3rd/4th grade presentation will begin at 5:50.
As a reminder this is an adult only event. We respectfully ask that students not attend.
Arrival, Dismissal and Transportation
As we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff, we kindly ask for your cooperation in following the established arrival and dismissal procedures at our school. Below you will find a video developed by our staff and students explaining our procedures. By adhering to these, we can work together to maintain a safe and efficient environment for all our students. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and contributes significantly to the well-being and smooth operation of our school.
Our staff work diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of your children. We kindly request that interactions with our staff remain respectful and courteous.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures Recap
- Cars may enter the front lot off of Deerfield Rd. or the west lot off of Wilmot Rd. There is limited space for cars in the front lot to pull along the median. Please do not block the entrance or pull into the bus lane.
- Please be respectful of our staff who are assisting children and flagging cars to move forward.
- All drivers must pull all the way forward in both parking lots.
- Drivers should not get out of their cars along the curb to assist students in either lot. Our staff is happy to assist and open doors with child safety locks.
- Adults should NEVER enter the parking lot using the exit. This creates a very dangerous situation.
- Drives should NEVER use their phone when on or around school property.
- Drivers should NOT block the entrance in the front lot or park in the designated handicapped spaces (which includes the lines painted adjacent to the parking space).
- We ask that you only cross at the crosswalk.
Bus Passes Are Coming Home
All bus riders will receive a pass by the middle of next week. Please attach the pass to your child's backpack. A bus pass is required for all bus riders.
Please Return Books Checked Out Over the Summer!

A Message From Mrs. Dubin (Art Teacher)
Hi Fabulous Wilmot Families! Our art room has a "Look Who's at the Art Museum" wall, which shows various current Wilmot students in front of famous works of art. So, if you are at any art museum this year, or were recently at an art museum, please send in, or email me to print, a photo of your Wilmot children standing in front of any famous work of art. Please see the sample of our wall thus far for this year. The kids always love looking at this wall throughout the year and love when new pics are added! Thanks so much!
