Laker Anchor
May 8, 2023
Greetings, Laker Families-
It is hard to believe that May is here and we are entering the last 6 weeks of the school year! As of right now, the weather is looking very promising for our PTA Spring Carnival this coming Friday night and for the next couple of weeks so let’s keep our fingers crossed for lots of sunny days ahead! Speaking of warmer weather, please plan on reviewing the “dress code” section (p.46-47) of the District’s Student and Family Information Guide with your child(ren) linked HERE. Thank you for partnering with us so that our students can begin dressing comfortably (while remaining school appropriate) for the warmer weather. Please reach out if you have questions.
Students are expected to comply with the following guidelines:
● Students must remove all headwear while in the building. Headwear includes hats, hoods, bandanas and other non-religious head coverings. Appropriate headwear may be worn for after school events.
● Clothing must cover the stomach and chest.
● Shorts, skirts and dresses may appear no shorter than the end (tips) of the fingertips (arm extended straight down sides).
● Footwear must be worn at all times and must be appropriate for the activity.
● Undergarments must be covered.
● Holes, tears, mesh, or other see-through materials in garments may not be in areas that clothing is expected to cover.
Thank you again for all the support of our PTA Spring Apex Fun Run Fundraiser! The students had a great time and the total proceeds being distributed to our PTA will be $24,559…incredible! These funds will be used by PTA to continue supporting and partnering with the school to enrich the school and community experiences for our students, staff, and families. Also a reminder from our PTA that yearbook sales will end on May 31 (please see attached flier for QR code) and the Scholastic Book Fair will run all this week. Students will have an opportunity to visit the book fair with their class during the school day (parents are welcome to load money into their child’s e-wallet) and the book fair will be open for parents to attend with their students 4:00-4:30 (Mon.-Thurs.) as well as during the Spring Carnival on Friday evening.

Our May Laker Purposefull People Character Trait is “Creativity…Using your imagination to create something or solve a problem.” Your follow up at home reinforcing your child as he/she demonstrates “creativity” each day would be a wonderful home-school connection. Although “kindness” has been woven throughout our traits all year, we will be specifically highlighting “kindness” these last 6 weeks of school. Be sure to ask your kiddos about Kindness Coins and how they are demonstrating “kindness” throughout their day! The background for our Laker Purposefull People Character Traits can be accessed through the Character Strong website. Thank you for raising such amazing children that desire to be Purposefull People and for your continued support of our school community.
Have a wonderful May!
