What We're Reading: VPL Book Chats
This weekend I read "The Sentence is Death", the second book in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series by Anthony Horowitz. I love puzzle mysteries and Horowitz could lead a master class. In this fiction series, author Anthony Horowitz narrates his crime-solving adventures with ex-cop Daniel Hawthorne. Their investigation takes them into a world of spelunking, rare wine collections and the fantasy fiction publishing world. I took advantage of a rainy night and devoured this book; the last three chapters kept me laughing, guessing and eager for more. Reading it was pure pleasure. This series has four titles, with a fifth scheduled for release later this year. I'd highly recommend this series for fans of classic whodunits. Happy Reading!

17-year-old Pippa "Pip" Fitz-Amobi has selected a murder case that occurred in her hometown as the subject of her senior capstone project. Popular girl and high school student Andrea "Andie" Bell disappeared one night after leaving a party. Her boyfriend, Salil "Sal" Singh, becomes a prime suspect in her disappearance, but before the case can be investigated further, Sal seemingly takes his own life. Andie's body is never found, and 5 years later, she is legally declared dead. Pippa can't bring herself to believe that Sal was guilty, so she teams up with his younger brother, Ravi, in order to launch her own investigation. As her personal investigation is underway, someone begins leaving threatening messages to Pippa to try to scare her away from the case. Obviously, someone doesn't want her to dig up the truth and unleash the skeletons that have remained buried for 5 years. 11/10 would definitely recommend! The story was so gripping, I had trouble putting it down!

We love when we get our overdue books back! Click the link below for a funny story about a book returned to Riverside Library in Colorado that was 36 years overdue! Remember, at the Vinton Public Library we don't charge late fees, so it's never too late to return a library book! Once a book is 12 months overdue, we charge a replacement fine. That fine is waived if the book is returned. Happy Reading!
