Happy Halloween to all! Gotta admit I have always loved Halloween, both as a kid and now as an adult. As a kid, there was that moment of freedom my parents would give me to go out with my little friends and just hit up as many houses as I could until the streetlights came on! Honestly, I stayed out way past that but in those days nobody cared. Now as an adult and parent, my goal is to give my daughters special experiences that will last with them long into their adulthood. I love living these holidays through a child's eyes again. What makes this even more special is the opportunity to have football still be a part of our journey at this late stage of the season. These small wins keep the fuel for a championship burning day in and day out.

This past week our Stars won their program record 9th game in a row and punched their ticket into the sweet 16. I want to pause this moment and truly reflect on the amazing, unprecedented accomplishment this team has earned. No team in the history of our program has won 9 straight games! Not only have they won every game, but in my opinion, they have improved in each of these games. This group is special; I will scream it from the highest mountain top. We know it. The opponent knows it, which is why this week will be so amazing.

This past week we discussed our playoff journey and dubbed it the "Brick Walls Tour". The obvious question is why "brick walls." There was a gentleman named Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University. In the summer of 2006, Randy learned he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Randy used his death sentence in the coming months to discuss life, living, and the pursuit of greatness. Randy wrote the "Last Lecture." In this book, Randy discusses his battle along with a few great anecdotes on life. One of which caught my eye and has stayed with me. He refers to life adversity as "brick walls." He says that brick walls are there not to keep you out but to keep those unwilling to do whatever it takes from entering. These obstacles are not insurmountable to the man or woman willing to make the sacrifices needed to defeat them. This aligns with our program mentality of "it takes what it takes." We teach our players and staff that we must be willing to do whatever it takes to make success a reality. I love this message and encourage you to discuss it with your son.

Finally, I want to thank every parent, player, and coach who has invested their life into this program. I am humbled to be a part of this special journey and hope we can all take a moment to realize just how special this is. We are NOT done. This will not be our final week; someone will have their last practice on Friday night...IT WILL NOT BE SCN.

In the IHSA, not every team will make the 7a playoffs. Only 32 teams get the honor of being in a playoff. Essentially, it is like winning a regional championship to get in. To determine who gets into the playoffs, the IHSA has a set of rules.

1. 5 wins make a team playoff eligible

2. 6 wins is an automatic bid

3. Conference champion is an automatic bid

4. Seeding is based on records and the points

5. 1 point is awarded to the team for every win on their schedule

* PLAYOFF TIME MEANS AN EXPANSION OF OUR PRACTICE SQUAD AND ROSTER

- IT IS ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTAND THAT JOINING THE VARSITY IS A COMMITMENT

- PLAYERS WILL BE HELD TO VARSITY ACCOUNTABLE FOR ATTENDANCE

- ALL SOPHOMORES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE PLAYOFF RUN ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD

- FROSH WILL BE BY INVITE ONLY

- CERTAIN SOPHS & FROSH WILL BE ADDED TO THE VARSITY ROSTER FOR THE PLAYOFFS

- A GOOGLE FORM WILL BE RELEASED WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR INTERESTED PLAYERS TO FILL OUT.

Our program prioritizes the first 20 minutes of practice to a program connection every Wednesday. We call it Program Day, and during that time, we highlight each level and talk about our journey. Our captains deliver a message for the week and our coaches have an open mic to discuss anything that they feel is relatable to the week. It is always a very special time and one I cherish as an opportunity to connect our program. Here are some highlights

A gigantic thank you to our parent group for making our playoff pairing party such a huge success. Our program savored the moment on Saturday night as we enjoyed pizza and cake while watching our selection.

Jordan Nubin '20 continues to get carries as the Golden Gophers have now improved to 3-0

This past Saturday, the NU Wildcats bested the Cornhuskers from Nebraska in a week 0 special. The game was played in Dublin, Ireland. Congrat Carmine

Junior DB Tyler Nubin is on the Recee's Bowl Senior Watch list. This is a high honor as the Senior Bowl is the premier senior showcase for potential NFL players. Congrats Tyler
