Community Crew News #38
May 18th, 2024
Greetings Conway Community!
As an Expeditionary Learning school we know that our families and community are key partners in the education of all our students. We value the contributions and backgrounds of all our families and community and created a very special event to demonstrate how much we appreciate them all. Today we hosted our Volunteer Breakfast for all our volunteers. Our family liaison, Mrs. Maldonado created a beautiful event to celebrate all they've done this year for our school. Our TK crew serenaded our guests, 6th grade students shared their learning and read our school ONE BOOK, Nigel and Moon in both English and Spanish. Kindergarten sprinkled sunshine all around when they sang, "You are my sunshine", and 3rd grade students treated our guest to two songs from their musical revue they will perform at Celebration of Learning. Mrs. Rico's students closed the entertainment with several songs and ended with Glorious, our school song. It was beautiful celebration of appreciation for the many hands, hearts, and minds that make our school a very special place to be.
Celebration of Learning, Thursday May 23rd, 5 - 7pm
On behalf of our Conway Crew, we are all looking forward to seeing you ALL here at our 4th Annual “Celebration of Learning” on the evening of Thursday, May23rd, 2024.
What will be the shape of the evening?
The feedback received last year in 2023 helped us plan for this year, so we have organized formal presentations at two different times for every classroom beginning at 5:00pm. The library will be converted to an art, STEM, and PE gallery of high quality student work from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Is there a limit on attendance?
No, please bring along any family member and friends interested in seeing high quality work. All attendees will be the audience for our students. This year, an incentive will be in place to encourage families to visit other grade levels. The following day, students will share in crew what they learned by visiting another grade level and earn a cougar paw for every visit.
Is there a dress code for the evening?
Yes there is! Students are expected to dress for success. This is a formal presentation and a time for students to show the pride they feel for their learning. Please have your child dressed nicely in appropriate presentation attire.
Will there be a specific program to follow in the classrooms?
Our goal is to ensure that families have ample time to hear the formal student presentations, visit other classrooms, and enjoy the art and STEM projects. We encourage all families to visit other presentations to get a glimpse of future learning.
Food Vendors at Celebration of Learning
Will there be food available for purchase?
Yes there will be. We have invited a few food trucks, Frida’s Tacos, Cactus Cat’s coffee, Churros and Kona Ice. Our goal is that families have affordable dinner options. Come early, food trucks open at 4:30 pm.
