Mustang Monthly
August 2024
A message from Mr. David Jennings, Principal
To our Maize Central Elementary Families:
I would like to thank all of you for a wonderful turnout during parent-teacher conferences last month. We had over 95% of families in attendance. On behalf of the MCE staff, I want to thank all of you for your support!
A special thank you to our PTO who provided our staff with a lunch from Chipotle and Meddy's for dinner. Everything was delicious! Thank you to the parents who volunteered and helped with set up and clean up. Our staff greatly appreciates all that was done!
With cooler temperatures upon us, please arrive promptly for afternoon pick-up at the north parking lot. We want to minimize the time students are exposed to the colder weather. Students who do not have a ride will be taken to the office where they will wait for an adult to come in and sign them out. Our parent-pick up is finished at 3:40pm on M/T/Th/Fr, and 3:05pm on Wednesdays.
Please pick up students from the parent pick-up line, or communicate a meeting place with your child and their teacher for your student to walk to at the end of the day. We ask that parents/guardians only pick up in the office for appointments or illness.
Thank you for all of your support to help make MCE a great place for everyone!
Sincerely,
David Jennings
MCE Principal

MOXI Monday's at Maize Central Elementary
MOXI Mondays bring local baked goods to our school menu
Maize USD 266 Food Service and MOXI Junction, a coffeehouse and bakery in Maize, are making Mondays a little easier with MOXI Mondays during school breakfast. On (Date), our students will have the opportunity to select a freshly baked carmelita bar from MOXI Junction as a part of their school breakfast. Students can select a carmelita and add choices of fruit, juice, and milk.
Fall Parties
We are excited to hold our Fall Parties on Thursday, October 31st. Times will vary depending on class schedules. If you'd like to volunteer or attend, please make sure you have completed the Volunteer Background Check (found here) for this school year (regardless if you submitted one last year), and reach out to your student's teacher for information and times.
Please remember these guidelines for costumes:
- No masks!
- Make believe weapons such as guns, swords, knives, etc. are not to be brought to school as part of their costume.
- No make-up or face paint.
- Children should not wear their costumes to school.
- Costumes should be easy to put on over clothing.
- We request that students bring their costumes in a bag that can fit in their backpack in the morning.
Maize Central Elementary Concert's
Hello Parents and Guardians,
We have a few concerts coming up. All of the following concerts will be held at the Maize Performing Arts and Aquatics Center (1055 W Academy Ave, Maize, KS 67101). Students should arrive 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time so they can join their classes and prepare for performances.
Thursday, November 7th
Third Grade Concert
6pm at MPAAC
(Brown, Keiter, Livesay, J. Poynter, Schoen)
Thursday, November 7th
Fourth Grade Concert
7:15pm MPAAC
(Dean, Kelley, Perryhill, A. Poynter, Sharp)
This is a note to remind you about a needed item for the upcoming concert. Thanks to those of you who already helped out with this request!
As you know, the children are getting ready for a November 7th vocal music program that will be held at the Maize Performing Arts and Aquatics Center. I would like to request your help in acquiring a costume accessory for the upcoming music program.
In the information letter that you received earlier, I requested that the children wear tennis shoes, regular denim jeans/dark pants and a plain citrus orange, lime green or lemon-yellow t-shirt tucked in at the waist as his/her outfit for this program.
IN ADDITION, it would help if each child has a pair of sunglasses to use as a prop. If your child doesn’t have a pair, the Dollar Tree is a great resource for something like this. Please use a piece of masking tape to label the inside glasses frame with your child’s name and classroom teacher name. We will use the glasses in class to rehearse, so I ask that the glasses be kept at school until after the program. Students can start bringing these on Tuesday, October 15th. It would be great to have them all by October 25th. If this request presents a problem for your family, please email me at cpierce@usd266.com .
Thank you,
Mrs. Pierce
Attendance
Volunteers
We are excited to welcome volunteers in the classroom. If you would like to help out around our school, please fill out our MCE S.T.A.N.G.S. volunteer form, then check with the classroom teacher to schedule a time. Additionally, please click here to submit a background check as required by the district. A new background check needs to be completed for each school year. Best of all, you can submit it now and be set for events all year long!
Raptor ID Scanning
When visiting our school, you will be able to park in our East parking lot and sign in through our front office. Please bring a valid government issued ID so that our secretaries may scan it into our Raptor System. This helps us to verify our visitors and creates a badge so that our staff can identify those they may see in the hallways. This is used any time a visitor will enter the building (regardless of a completed background check). It only takes a few moments and your scanned ID is good for the entire school year, so there is no need to rescan for later visits!
If you plan to visit, please contact your child's teacher to set up a time so we can maximize instruction and support for everyone. There will be lots of opportunities for volunteering and celebrations. We look forward to a fun-filled year!
🚗 Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up🚗
If you utilize our MCE Parent Pick-Up/Drop-Off line, please see our instructions here. We'd like to remind families that it is helpful to get your child into the routine of being ready to exit to the right side by our labeled barriers. For safety (and to keep our line moving) families should remain in their vehicles.
Thank you for helping us make this process safe and quick!

Why join MCE PTO?
The Maize Central Elementary (MCE) PTO is an organization that partners with the school to support the students and teachers in our building. To be successful, we need parent support and volunteers. This can be as simple as donating needed snacks/supplies to attending meetings or joining the PTO Board. Meetings for those who can attend are held monthly.
