Inside the Eagles Nest
Freedom High Schools' Black History Month festival was on Thursday, 02/27/2025. It was a successful and fun night filled with Black History, student business tables, awesome student performances, an African drumming set by The Heritage Village Project, a fantastic museum exhibit from the Carter 4- County Museum and more.
Performances from our talented FHS choir, Troy Phillips performed a saxophone solo of The National Anthem, Genesis Reyes performed a solo of Rihanna's "Lift Me Up", and Marli Smith performed a solo of James Weldon Johnson's "Lift Every Voice & Sing".
We also had the honor of hosting our Superintendent Dr. McDade, School Board Member Loree Williams, PWC Board of Supervisors The Honorable Margaret Franklin, and Director of High Schools Dr. Millard. Everyone had a wonderful time! We look forward to the plans for next year's festival and hope to see many more families join us.
A special appreciation to Ms. D'eana Forbes for making this incredible event happen. Your dedication and all of the coordination to ensuring this festival and all the events leading to the fesitval be successful was evident.

Family Engagement Survey
We are excited to announce the implementation of the Family Engagement Survey for Freedom High School. This survey is aimed at gathering valuable insights from our families. It is currently being used by schools receiving Title 1 funding and is a crucial tool for understanding family needs and perceptions, enhancing student success, building partnerships, improving school climate, and guiding decision-making processes.
Purpose of the survey:
1. Understanding Family Needs and Perceptions: The survey helps schools, and the Division gathers valuable insights into the needs, obstacles, and challenges faced by families. This information is crucial for creating supportive and effective educational environments.
2. Enhancing Student Success: Research shows that when families are actively engaged in their children's education, students tend to perform better academically, develop stronger social skills, and are more likely to graduate.
3. Building Partnerships: The survey fosters stronger partnerships between families and schools by elevating the voices and experiences of parents and caregivers. This collaboration can lead to more tailored and effective educational strategies.
4. Improving School Climate: By collecting feedback on various aspects of the school environment, schools can make informed decisions to improve the overall climate and make it more welcoming for families.
5. Continuous Improvement Plan: The survey supports Commitment 3, Family and Community Engagement objectives 3.1 (engaging families as authentic partners in education to support academic progress) and 3.3 (ensuring honest, transparent, and two-way communication with families, schools, and the community to foster trusting relationships).
