Tanglen Update
November 22, 2024
Numeracy Night was a Hit!
Tanglen Staff Members and our PTO hosted our first Numeracy Night on Tuesday. We had a great number of families show up to learn math games they can play at home. Thanks for making the commitment to attend this event. We hope you get to use the math swag bags often to play math games with your children! Bring the bag to Thanksgiving celebrations, for relatives love to learn the games, too!

We Need Your Input on Cell Phone Policy!
Earlier this week, the district sent an email inviting families to share feedback on the new cell phone policy, required by recent Minnesota legislation. We’d love to hear your thoughts on cell phone use at school and how we can create a balanced, effective policy. The survey takes about 10 minutes and is open until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 27. Check your email for details!
Please Leave Dogs at Home or in the Car
In our growing school population, we have students with varied needs we try to meet to keep them feeling safe and in a frame of mind to learn. With this in mind, we ask that you leave your dogs in your car or at home for drop off and pick up. As much as your dogs may love to see your children and their friends, the dogs' presence is causing anxiety and fear for some of our students when the dogs are on the sidewalks at school. Some students are not able to let their fear and anxiety go and carry those feelings into the school which is impacting their learning and our staff who need to work with the individuals to get back to a frame of mind for learning. Please help relieve the fear and stress in some of our community members. Leave the dogs in the car or at home. On behalf of the parents and caregivers of the students impacted, thank you so much!

Hopkins Community Education Alpine Ski Program
Do you know an elementary or middle school scholar who loves to ski? Improve your skills and learn to race with our Hopkins community education program!
For scholars grades 3-6, our Alpine program team is a fun way to enjoy winter and get to know other kids who love to ski. No race experience is needed, all you need is the ability to ski in control and our coaches will teach you the foundations of racing. Community education sign up is now open, so please use this link: Hopkins Alpine Community Education Program - Hopkins Community Education.
If you have questions about this program, please contact coaches Jason Langlie (JasonLanglie@gmail.com) or Maria Eaton (Mariachristine2@gmail.com)
Jottings from Jim (Our Principal, Dr. Hebeisen)
Yesterday our fourth and fifth grade students were invited to attend a rehearsal of "Newsies" at Hopkins High School. The musical not only contains many talented high school students, some of our Tanglen Tigers are in the cast as well! If you are looking for a fun family outing this weekend, I encourage you to check out "Newsies" and support our talented youth from around the Hopkins School District. https://www.vancoevents.com/us/events/landing/47569
Over the last few weeks, Tanglen has been fortunate enough to reveal the two new Hopkins Royals' mascots. The students enjoyed knowing they were the first crowds to get to enjoy these amazing creations. In the latest Inside Hopkins Podcast, I was one of the guests to share more information about the mascots. When you have 25 minutes to spare, you will enjoy hearing about how the mascots came to be an important part of Hopkins Public Schools.
