7th Grade ELAR/Pre-AP ELAR
Welcome to 7th grade!
Welcome Back!
It's here! The beginning of a brand new school year is here! It was awesome meeting some of you Thursday night. I can't wait to meet the rest of you. I look forward to a wonderful year of fun learning, growing, and ultimately, outstanding student achievement. This is the first of my weekly newsletters designed to keep you informed and aware of what we're experiencing in ELAR.
A little about me...
I am super excited about becoming a part of the amazing Cockrill Middle School family and teaching 7th grade! My teaching career began in Louisiana 12 years ago. Since moving to Texas, I taught in Carrolton-Farmer's Branch ISD for two years before moving to McKinney. This will be my 8th year in McKinney ISD, but my first in middle school. I've taught 3rd, 4th, 5th and now 7th grades. I am an avid reader and lover of writing. Written language excites me and I am eager to share my passion for reading and writing with my students this year. On a personal note, my husband and I live here in McKinney with our three children. I love singing competitions, word games and football, especially the Saints!
Novel Studies
We will complete at least two novel studies this year. They are, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry and "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. Copies of these books are available for purchase in the CMS library.
This Week...
Reading- Students will read and discuss the short story, "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto. Our Comprehension focus will be on analyzing the development of plot and identifying components of plot structure.
Writing-Students will share personal information and experiences as well as briefly describe a time they had to make a good first impression.
Reminder...
25 Things about Me is due Friday, August 29, 2014. Students will learn more about accessing this assignment tomorrow during class.
