IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Make sure you sign-up for a spring conference with your scholar's teacher(s).
- The Astro Spirit Store (via 10th Planet) will be open from April 1-15th. The link will be in the weekly newsletter during that window. Be on the lookout if you need to order uniform pieces.
- School will NOT be in session the week of April 7-11th for Spring Break.
- Please send in an excuse or parent note within three days of your scholar's absence. It is important that we receive those in order to mark the absence as excused.
- Please do NOT park or drop students off on East Sixth. This is a significant safety hazard.
- Cars are NOT able to enter the bus lane; therefore, please do NOT drop students off there.
- If your scholar arrives after 7:45 a.m. please park in our lot and check your scholar in through the front office.
- During afternoon pickup, please have your car tag on your dash so that numbers can be collected easily which helps in keeping the carline moving.
- Transportation changes MUST go through our front office staff by noon each day. Please email Ms. Jackson at kisha.jackson@fayette.kyschools.us
MAP TESTING
The spring MAP testing session for grades 3-5 will occur BEFORE spring break and is currently scheduled for March 31st - April 2nd with makeups on April 3rd and 4th. It is very important that scholars are in attendance and well rested.
*The K-2 testing window will be after spring break, April 15-25th. More info will be sent at a later date.
STEM NIGHT COMING SOON
Our annual STEM night is Thursday, April 3 from 6:00-7:30pm! We would love to invite you and your families to see what our scholars are doing as they will have some showcase tables of work from class and clubs, see demos of the tech we use, and walkthrough and see community partners who are using STEM in their careers.
We will have food trucks and a local ice cream shop with treats available to purchase. We hope to see you there!
ART TO REMEMBER
GWC is participating in a creative fundraiser with 'Art To Remember' that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child’s art! There are over 50 products and many are less than $20. These make great gifts, so plan ahead! A percentage of every order goes right back to our GWC Art Department. Ordering is simple and completed ALL online.
This year our smART scholars made a fun coffee filter painting that looks like a groovy tie-dye for our backgrounds. K-2 turned theirs into SUNS and 3-5 turned theirs into an EMOJI of choice or creation.
Order forms will be sent home in a few weeks, so be on the lookout for those!
*For more information, please click the button below. Our Art teacher, Holly Gilpin, will be leading this fundraiser if you have questions. She can be reached at holly.gilpin@fayette.kyschools.us
FOOD DRIVE - ENDING SOON!
GWC will participate in a food drive driven by staff; however, if scholars wish to participate, they are invited to do so, but THIS IS OPTIONAL FOR FAMILIES! If your scholar would like to donate, please make sure items are non-perishable!
*The food Drive will run from March 3 - March 21
UNIFORMS
- Scholars are expected to be in GWC approved shirts and pants daily.
- Please ensure that you layer with a school-approved sweatshirt, if needed; otherwise, sweatshirts that are not part of the GWC uniform will be considered outwear and placed in cubbies with coats.
- Scholars may wear athletic wear on Wednesdays (tops and bottoms) if they choose. If they opt out of athletic wear, they should be in uniform (including khaki pants as jeans are only permitted on Fridays).
- On Friday GWC Spirit Day, scholars may wear jeans, but they MUST be in a GWC shirt.
REPEATS
UPDATE YOUR INFO IN IC
Fayette County Public Schools reminds families in the district to take a moment mid-school year to review and update their contact information, including an updated address, and language preferences in the Campus Parent portal. Doing so will help ensure FCPS can send accurate and timely information to parents/caregivers when needed.
*Please follow this LINK to the Reminder to Check IC Details page where you can also find the link to the Parent Portal Link. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL INFORMATION IS UP-TO-DATE!
PBIS DONATIONS
Would you like to contribute to our Dojo Store? Follow this link to our wish list. Thank you for all you do for our scholars!
ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year
FACE TEAM
Parents and Families, do you have a suggestion or idea that you would like to share? If so, we would love to hear them! Our Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team consists of: an administrator, parent representative, community representative (open seat), educators, counselors, FACE Liaison, and Family Liaison. We meet monthly and work to support our students and families.
If you have a suggestion or idea as it relates to communication, community support/partnerships, and/or ideas that can grow our school, we welcome those in the form of an email directed to our parent representative, Christin Jones (2nd grade scholar, Easton Wilson's mom). She will present those at the meeting, and we will discuss them and determine how we will move forward.
If you would like to share anything, please email Christin Jones at christinjones.cj@gmail.com by the meeting dates listed below:
