Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and staff, our scores reflect the dedication and commitment to excellence that defines Memorial Middle School. These results are a testament to the collaborative spirit and unwavering focus on academic achievement that permeates every corner of our school community.
As we prepare to bid farewell to another successful school year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. To our students, thank you for your perseverance, your enthusiasm for learning, and your unwavering determination to succeed. Parents Matter – Take a Stand Against Underage Drinking - Research shows that parents are the #1 reason young people decide not to drink. Start talking to your children about alcohol before they start drinking. (SAMHSA)
RISKY BEHAVIOR: Kids who drink are more likely to be involved in alcohol-related traffic crashes, to be victims of violent crime and to have serious school-related problems. Feel free to click on the following resources for great information about how to talk with your son/daughter about this important topic:
“Talk. They Hear You” App. (3 mins. Video Description) which has discussion guides, videos, etc. to help protect your child:

US Surgeon General Warning on Social Media Use - US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy says he believes 13 is too young for children to be on social media platforms, because although sites allow children of that age to join, kids are still “developing their identity.” For more information, click on the following link: Surgeon General Warning

Annual Update Reminders for Existing Students
STARTING APRIL 1, 2024
*It is expected that an annual update is completed for every student.
Annual Information Updates are done through the Parent Portal. Parents logged into an active Parent Portal account should see an option for "Annual Student Information Update" on the right-hand side of their portal homepage. Parents will be able to update existing student information and/or add new students to their household (for example, new KG student or new foster student) at this time by selecting Add New Student on the Student Tab.
Parent Portal
The Sioux Falls School District uses a student management system called Infinite Campus. The parent/guardian portion of this student management system is called the Parent Portal. This access allows parents to see student schedules, grades, attendance, behavior, and report cards online.
Parent Portal is also where parents/guardians complete the annual student information update and Free/Reduced Meal Application.
A parent/guardian with more than one student in the Sioux Falls School District will be able to view information for all their students with one account. Parent/Guardians may set up one account to share in their household or each parent/guardian may set up an account for their own use.
Accessing Parent Portal
The address to access the Parent Portal is: https://siouxfallssd.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/siouxfalls.jsp. Break the Clouds:
Vape-Free Me Initiative
Delivers Important Message to SF Youth
Monday, April 8, 2024 - One puff. That’s all it takes. The Sioux Falls School District is joining the fight against the nationwide trend of increased use of vaping products by youth, sadly, some as young as 8 to ten years old. Along with the Sioux Falls Health Department, the District is launching the “Break the Clouds” campaign, adding prevention and education resources for students and families, schools, and the greater community.
The fresh and captivating awareness campaign highlights the harmful effects of vaping – especially on children. With tobacco giants using fruit and candy-flavored nicotine cartridges to target youth, the temptation is real. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s report in 2022, over 3 million high school and middle school students have used tobacco products in the last 30 days.
“Break the Clouds” is an attention-grabbing campaign featuring the stories of vaping truths in Sioux Falls. Along with videos, a website, and posters, “quit cards” will be available in schools when a student faces discipline for having a vaping device. Students will receive a card containing FREE resources to help them quit.
The Vape Free Me Initiative focuses on the harmful effects of vaping on the developing brain. Researchers say vaping can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control – all integral elements that support learning and success in school.
“It’s alarming. Students tell us they can’t make it through an entire school day without vaping because they’re so addicted. This is a community-wide problem. "Schools play a vital role in helping students to quit vaping by raising awareness and connecting families with essential resources. It's crucial for children to be in school to learn, and with the support of community partners, we can help them break free from this harmful habit," underscores Dr. Jane Stavem, Superintendent.
“I see the impact of vaping not only on individual health but also on families and communities. It’s concerning to witness the number of young people falling into nicotine addiction through vaping,” shared Dr. Jennifer Tinguely, Medical Director of Falls Community Health. “By providing education, resources, and support for youth struggling with vaping, we’re not just treating symptoms but working towards preventing long-term health complications.”
The campaign will appear on social media, public access channels KLRN-TV and City Link, and quit cards are now available in all SFSD schools. Efforts begin immediately and are timely before summer break when students have more freedom and less supervision.
