SVDP Newsletter
May 11, 2020
Dear SVDP Community,
We continue to be inspired by you, especially most recently through the virtual CoffeeTALK. Your words of encouragement were appreciated and shared with the teachers and staff. Your resolve to maintain the stability necessary for our students is remarkable. Thank you!
The most common topic from the CoffeeTALK involved returning to SVDP in the fall and the unique dynamic missing in all our lives…personal interaction. What we experience daily, in-person and on campus, cannot be replicated online. Teacher to student, classmate to classmate, and especially our group activities: Mass, morning assembly, student families, recess, lunchtime…that is where our community becomes complete. With that in mind, we are turning our attention to the fall and how to recreate these foundations of our community while still maintaining the protocols necessary to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
We are moving ahead with plans to open for in-person, on-campus instruction this fall. We accept that there will still be some degree of distance learning required and that our on-campus life will look different in the short term. There are numerous variables outside of our control, but we are creating alternate plans to address multiple scenarios based on the things we do know.
With assistance of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and San Francisco Public Health, we plan to comply with Governor Newsom’s emerging strategy to reopen California. We will always put the health of our students, faculty, and staff first. Things being considered:
· Reducing density in classrooms and creating hybrid versions of a traditional classroom
· Alternating in-class and online instruction
· Expanding opportunities for in-person involvement, beyond academic experiences
· Continuing intensive cleaning of our facilities
· Incorporating personal protection, testing, and contact tracing for students and employees
We have no final plan but are considering all our options with your children’s well-being at the forefront of all our decisions. We pray that any changes to our campus life will be short term in providing an SVDP education that last a lifetime. We appreciate your patience and will continue to keep you updated on any and all decisions made.
There is only one you, and together we are SVDP.
