Happy Friday, Everitt Families!
Life can often present us with a mix of highs and lows in the same week.
Last night, our 7th graders and Ms. Galvez-Estevez were honored for their outstanding work in science last year by Michelle Applegate, a member of the Jeffco School Board. The board room was packed with many of our wonderful families, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. Hearing Ms. Galvez-Estevez speak about the brilliance and passion of our students was truly inspiring. I have immense respect for our students, their commitment to making a difference in their community, and their remarkable capabilities.
Our flag football team had their first game and won, while our cross country team participated in their first meet. Our cheerleaders and student council members have been hard at work preparing for our upcoming whole-school crew and spirit assembly. This week, our students have engaged in science labs, created incredible art, read powerful literature, explored important historical events, and participated in team-building activities in crew.
However, our students are also affected by the world around them. Many have expressed concern about the swatting social media posts affecting schools statewide and the heightened emotions surrounding 9/11 each year. I encourage you to check in with your students about their feelings this week.
Tomorrow, Ms. Reardon and our band students will be hosting a pickleball tournament to raise funds for their upcoming band competition. I’m excited to spend the day cheering on our participants and supporting our talented band students.
We held our first book club meeting on Wednesday at 5:00 PM, where we began discussing 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager. It’s not too late to join us next week! Even if you can’t attend every session, we’d love for you to join the discussion. Next Wednesday, we’ll delve into Chapter 1: "What We Get Wrong," which explores the shortcomings of traditional methods used to motivate young people and how we can improve.
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

.
Though meals are free for all Jeffco students, families are still encouraged to visit SchoolCafé and complete a Student Benefits Application. Student Benefits Applications are now available on SchoolCafé for the 2024-25 school year. If you need a paper application, please contact Jeffco’s Free & Reduced Lunch Specialist, Lorena Gomez-Vazquez, at 303-982-6916 with additional questions. Visit the Free & Reduced Meals webpage to learn more.

Book Study Opportunity
I would love to have as many families (and students, staff members, and community members) as want to join me for a book study on the book 10-25:The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager. The book is about how to help young people between the ages of 10 and 25 to feel inspired, enthusiastic, and ready to contribute rather than discouraged, outraged or overwhelmed. I am loving the book so far and I think you will too. It is equally powerful for parents, educators, mentors, coaches, and managers. We are going to be meeting on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 starting next week. Purchase the book, read chapter 1, and join us!

Poem in response to the book Fry Bread:
Spaghetti is home
It's the place we make it and the people we share it with
All mixed together in a big bowl
Spaghetti is family
It's warm and cozy like a blanket homemade
Spaghetti is food
When we eat it, we can't stop
Like a bottomless pit in our stomachs.

Panorama Social Emotional Learning Student Survey (Grades 6-8)
Family Notification Letter
2024-25 School Year
Dear Families:
Panorama Education is a company who conducts student and family surveys in schools and districts across the country. Everitt Middle School will be giving students the Panorama Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Student Survey 2-3 times per year.
Content. The Panorama student survey gathers information on the following areas/competencies of social emotional skills:
Self-Awareness
Self-Management
Social Awareness
Relationship Skills
Responsible Decision-Making
You may review the survey questions by visiting this link. For more information on the SEL competencies visit this link.
The results are compiled into both individual and group summaries of social emotional skill progress. These reports are used by district leaders and school staff to guide our development of school-wide, small group, and/or individual social emotional support. You will be notified if your child is invited to join a small group or individual intervention.
It is Voluntary. Your child does not have to take the student survey.
It is Confidential. No students will be identified in any public reports or publications. Individual student information (name, student number, school and grade) will be uploaded into the Panorama system, as with other Panorama surveys. Individual student data may be shared with school staff to provide instructional and social emotional support.
Timing: The survey will be administered in the fall, winter, and optionally in the spring. It will take about 10 minutes.
Opt Out: If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, you may contact Caroline Curtiss, Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Caroline.Curtiss@jeffco.k12.co.us by September 20, 2024.

Año escolar 2024-25
Estimadas familias:

Autogestión
Concienciación social
Habilidades relacionales

Spencer B is always a reliable worker in my classroom, and often leads discussions on whatever the topic is. I would like to recognize Spencer B for his initiative in helping me with a bin of workbooks that had fallen to the floor. His help was greatly appreciated, and he took the initiative to assist without being asked.
Cole M was so excited for guitar club and even helped me tune all the guitars and invited his friend as well.
These three girls have taken on more responsibilities in class to help out another student. They have been so helpful to myself and the class by looking out for others. Thank you Akira D, Trinity W and Nay Nay Z!
Alla M saw a 7th grader sitting alone at study hall and went over to introduce herself. The two ended up having a great conversation. I am proud of the courage and kindness Alla showed!
Zayden J took responsibility for his actions and went out of his way to show kindness and put his best foot forward. I am very proud of Zayden's integrity!
Captain B is well on his way to being an outstanding artist. He is so creative and focused in art class and is a great helper to others too!
Leighton R shows immense levels of kindness and respect to everyone in our class. She not only makes others feel welcome and loved, she makes sure they're okay and have every chance to be successful.
Steven T was an active participant in our class discussion on Regions. He was one of the first to volunteer and his responses helped others in class deepen their understanding of the topic. I'm proud of him!
Declan E is always ready to try, give his best and bring 100% to whatever we are doing. He leads by example, always ready to help others, help with cleanup and what an incredible artist!
Maggie R is always a self starter-doing her work and being super creative even if things around her are a little off task. She has a great work ethic and chooses to be a helper every time! Way to go!
Pita G is always willing to help out. If there's something to volunteer for she always steps up. She is polite, kind to everyone around her and brings a great attitude to class every day.
John D brings his A game to class every day. He is always ready to help others, is kind, friendly and respectful, and has some great creative ideas going on! Way to go!
