4-H Blast
January 31, 2025
February is Nebraska 4-H Month! Find more events to take part in below.
Join us on every Thursday during February for Wendy's Night! It's easy to support 4-H: Thursday evenings, from 5-8 pm, stop by Wendy's, order food (drive through or in store), and a portion of ALL proceeds will go to the York County 4-H program. Tell all of your family and friends, too!
4-H Month Fun!
We are changing things up this year., Instead of our traditional 4-H Kick event we are celebrating all Month.
Join us all month in for a fun game of 4-H Month Bingo!
Beginning Feb 3rd come into the Extension Office and grab a Bingo card and start working towards a bingo or a blackout.
Here is how it will work: Each week there is a theme, you decide which of the bingo squares you would like to fill out, or all if you would like. Each Bingo you complete earns you one ticket, while a blackout earns you 15 tickets. Plus, if you're enrolled in 4-H for the 2025 4-H year, you'll receive an additional 2 tickets. You can then use your tickets to enter the prize drawings of your choice.
Tune in to Facebook on Monday, February 3rd for the prize reveal.

Special Agronomy Project 2025
The Nebraska Extension Special Agronomy Project gives 4-H members an opportunity to experience a crop that is grown, was grown, or has the potential to be grown in Nebraska. Youth participate by receiving seed and resources to grow the crop, research traits of the crop, and determine the viability of that crop in the part of the state they live. The project allows 4-H members interested in agronomy to grow something fun, new, and different. This year, we will be exploring a crop that can be marketing different ways depending on variety.
In the fifth year of the special agronomy project, youth will explore sunflowers! There are two types of sunflower production in Nebraska. There are those grown for oil production, and those grown for human food consumption referred to as confectionery seeds. A portion of the oil seed production is used in the bird seed industry. Sunflowers are grown throughout the state of Nebraska with the greatest concentration in western Nebraska. The variety we will be growing is a high oleic hybrid. Its oil profile combined with a nice black seed color ensures multiple market options
Contact the Extension Office by February, 28th if you would like to participate!
4-H Enrollment is open!
4-H enrollment is open for the 2025 Fair Year! Please remember that you must re-enroll every year; when you do, please double check projects, grade level of youth, and T-SHIRT SIZE (we use this info for fair exhibitor shirts!).
Reminder, if you are planning to participate in Shooting Sports, you must select your discipline area from projects to sign consent forms AND make sure you are listing either York Street (BB, Air, and Archery) or Clay Busters (Trap) as either the primary or secondary club.

Classroom Connection
We’re proud to launch the new 4-H Classroom Connection, a collection of life enrichment experience designed for groups of youth in school classrooms, home school co-ops, afterschool programs, and families looking for supplemental learning experiences. All the programs are supported by a statewide network of positive youth development experts, bringing the education of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln straight to your classroom. 4h.unl.edu/classroom-connection
