High Plains Elementary
May 8th, 2024
Dear High Plains Elementary School Families and Friends,
We are almost at the end of the school year! It is hard to believe that it is already here, it seems like just a few weeks ago we had all of the excitement of a new school year.
Thank you to our “specials” teachers! We are so glad that our community was able to come out to celebrate all of the great work that students are doing during their specials classes. It was filled with amazing art, fun STEM activities, beautiful music, and a fantastic Super Skippers!
We are excited to celebrate our first High Plains pre-k class continuation, kindergarten continuation, and our 5th grade Hawks that will be leaving us for middle school! The next two weeks are full of exciting events and fun activities. I look forward to seeing you at these events and celebrating alongside you.
Thank you to the community for all of the staff appreciation gifts! From myself and Mrs. Olson, thank you for the principal and assistant principal appreciation gifts as well. It is an honor to work alongside such an amazing community!
Warm regards,
Robert
Reminders!
After School Routine: Please do not allow students to play on the playground during pickup. This allows staff to ensure that students are accounted for and limits confusion. Also, Growing to Greatness utilizes the main playground when the weather is nice. Because of licensing, students that are not signed up for care are not allowed to be on the playground at the same time. Thank you for your understanding.
No Dogs on Campus: We love our furry friends! Just a friendly reminder that animals (including dogs) are not allowed on campus. Thank you for your understanding in keeping the community safe.
Volunteering: Please make sure you have registered with the district prior to volunteering. Please click here to register.
Cell Phones and Smartwatches: If a student brings a cell phone to school, it must be kept off from 8:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. and stored in their backpack. Similarly, if a student wears a smartwatch with texting or calling capabilities to school, it is expected that those features be disabled during school hours. Misuse of cell phones or smartwatches may result in confiscation of the device. Confiscated devices will only be released to parents/guardians. Students are allowed to call home with permission from staff during appropriate times.
Street Parking: When parking along Fulton St and/or Pinewood Ave, please make sure you are not double parking or leaving your vehicle unattended in the street. Also, please be mindful about watching for students and their families as they cross the street and be sure to obey the school zone speed limit.

Chopper Topper Dental Visit
Dear parents,
We will have a dental program called Chopper Topper visiting our school during the week of May 13-17th. This program is available to all Pre-K, & 1st through 4th grade students. This is an opportunity for students to receive a dental screening, fluoride varnish, and sealants as needed right here at High Plains. The goal is to prevent tooth decay, pain, and time lost from school due to oral concerns. Each visit takes about 15 minutes per child.
Please be on the lookout in your students Friday folder for more information coming home on April 26th.
There is an application that must be completed and sent back to your student’s teacher in order for your student to participate.
I will be sending a link with a video to teachers to be shown in the classroom so students will know the process.

If you have any questions, please reach out to nurse Renee at 720-554-3606 or rshykind@cherrycreekschools.org
Thank you for partnering with our school and Chopper Topper to help keep our High Plains students healthy and here at school!
Thank you,
Renee Shykind RN, MSN, NCSN
