Summer Reading Kick Off Party

Join us for face paint, games, an ice-cream bar, crafts, and snacks! Sign up for summer reading while you are at it!
Special Family Event
Family Garden Fair
Saturday, June 8, 9 a.m. to noon, Reuben Mason House, 1043 Putnam Pike, Chepachet
Age Level: All Ages – No registration required.
Drop-in for some outdoor fun at the Family Garden Fair, offered by Glocester Heritage Gardens. The event includes fun children’s nature activities, URI Master Gardeners presentations on growing herbs, how-to create a container garden, how to grow popcorn, and how to attract pollinators to your gardens. There will also be presentations by the Glocester Heritage Society on Glocester historic cemeteries, the history of the Reuben Mason House, and Glocester’s rich history. Bring a sample of your garden soil to be tested and find some plants at the perennial plant sale.

Harmony and Glocester Manton Libraries’ Craft Tables

Youth of all ages, discover the indoor craft table at both libraries. Each library is different, so be sure to visit both places.
Weekly Take and Make Crafts

Children of all ages, visit both libraries weekly to pick up a craft! Craft kits will be different at each location. Some kits may require help for younger crafters.
Monarch Butterfly Migration
June 1 through June 20, during library hours

Age Level: Ages 5 and up
We will be tracking Monarch butterfly migration from Mexico to Rhode Island. There will be a few different hands-on activities to learn about this amazing insect. When the weather gets warmer, we will have some live butterflies!
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt

Stop by the Glocester Manton Library or the Harmony Library to pick up an Outdoor Scavenger Hunt sheet! Visit Steere Hill Trail on your own time to find and identify all 15 animals and their fun facts.

Come build LEGOs with us! Bring your imagination and creativity to come up with some awesome designs that we will then display in the Harmony Library. Note: Registration is required for each session.

Join us at the Harmony Library to play Minecraft Bedrock edition! The library will be providing realms so only our library friends can join us. If you need to use one of our devices, please register. There’s no need to register if you are using your own device with Minecraft Bedrock edition on it. Note: Registration is required for each session if you need a device.

Join us with Life Span to learn how to be a proper babysitter! Learn choking rescue, CPR, safety and behavior management, and babysitting as a business. Please bring a lunch, drink, and snacks. Class fee is $50 per participant. Please arrive 15 minutes early.

Fearless Art

The Fearless Art Group will meet in June before taking a summer break during the months of July and August. The group will end its meetings with new art techniques to explore and practice. The group will meet back up in September, the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Share your writing with your peers! The Harmony Library Writers’ Group is open to writers in all genres and forms, including poetry. Writers will read excerpts from their current work and discuss it. Note: The group begins with a social half-hour at 6 p.m., before meeting formally at 6:30 p.m. Note: The Writers’ Group will take a summer break in July and August.
The Larchmont Remembered: Rhode Island’s Greatest Tragedy at Sea

Daniel F. Harrington, a former East Providence City Councilor and long-time featured monthly columnist for the Providence Journal, will tell the tale of the night the Larchmont, a wooden, side-wheel steamship, collided with the Harry Knowlton, a three-master schooner, just off Block Island in zero-degree weather in 1907.
Summer Beehive Craft for Adults
Tuesday, June 25, 6 p.m. and Wednesday, June 26, 10:30 a.m.
Harmony Library
Participants will learn how to create a charming beehive with heavy twine, glue, and decorative accent pieces. All materials will be provided. Participants are asked to register for only one class. Note: Registration will open on Tuesday, June 4 at 6 p.m.
