From The Desk Of Your Principal:
Seasons Greetings, RMS Families!
Can you believe that we have twelve school days left before we enter winter break with the second quarter ending on December 20th? It is essential that students take a good look at where they are academically and make a conscientious effort to improve grades in their classes to end the first semester off well. Parents, we really appreciate your support with reviewing the HAC System and connecting with teachers to ensure your child is being pushed academically. Please also remember that this year, we have added two new online programs to support with math and reading enrichment. We ask that students access these programs after school in order to improve reading and math skills. These programs are free of charge and can be accessed anytime and anywhere through the internet. If you need support with access codes please connect with your child’s math and reading teachers.
For our eight grade parents, we would like for you to be aware of the PCSSD Driven Program. This program is a blended approach to learning where courses are facilitated by teachers to allow students to explore learning opportunities and gain credits at their own pace. Please read the message from Coach Eskola and contact him for further information about the program. Applications are currently being accepted, please click on this link to register students.
We recently completed our winter NWEA Maps Testing. Students should be coming home with the assessment data within the next week. As parents, you are looking for growth made from Fall to Winter benchmarks. Please see the chart correlation to national norms to better understand how your child performed. If you see a discrepancy between your child’s ability and performance outcomes, this is a great time to remind your child that her/his effort counts. These assessments are being used to guide our staff in providing support and enrichment to students across the school, therefore, we need accurate information. Our teams will be meeting with students to set goals for the spring assessment as well as the state assessments. These are building blocks to support them as they proceed through our secondary system towards post secondary opportunities (college and career readiness).
Lastly, on December 20th, 2019, we will end the semester off by celebrating all students who have zero referrals (in regards to behavior) and have 1 or less tardies to class. This is a PBIS incentive. Our staff have planned an awesome day for these deserving students. Students are not required to pay to enter the activities. However, we will open up our concession stand to sell snacks. There will be an opportunity to watch a movie, engage in sporting events, dancing, karaoke and/or board games in the media center. This will be a fun time, so please encourage your child to add to our community through positive and supportive behaviors that build a great school!
Have a Happy New Year and Looking forward to 2020!!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Appiah-McNulty
