Message from Superintendent Mike Johnson
During this week of appreciation for the profession, I am proud that Creswell School District is home to committed and caring school counselors. Each day, Jessica Iszak, Lauri Thomas, Lori Naugle, and Mona Stiffler help students achieve school success and plan for careers while offering guidance, support, and encouragement. As you see and partner with them, please thank them for their efforts.
Supporting and encouraging Creswell's youth is something we can ALL do, each in our own way. Whether sharing your excitement for a subject or hobby, introducing them to a new skill, or cheering them on as they pursue their goals, you influence our students' educational journey. Thank you for being an important member of our learning community!
Sincerely,
Mike Johnson
Superintendent

National School Counseling Week
Thank you, Jessica, Lauri, Mona, and Lori, for ALL you do for our students!
Congratulations - CHS Future Business Leaders of America students
This year, 16 Creswell High School students competed in FBLA's regional competition. All 16 students finished within the top 10 entries of their given categories and, as a result, have been invited to compete in April at the state FBLA competition in Portland. Congratulations, Bulldogs, and good luck at state!

English Language Arts Curriculum Adoption Update
Our Language Arts curriculum adoption process continues to move forward and has proved to be a highlight. K-12 teams met at the Education Service District on Friday, January 28th to take a deeper dive into reviewing the curriculum options. Following rubric development which was based on staff feedback and student need, committee members carefully reviewed top curriculum choices (as per ODE guidance). After a full day of viewing presentations and scanning through materials, each team has made their top recommendations to bring forward to staff and community stakeholders.
Next steps include getting the curriculum materials on our campus to review and then presenting to our schools and community for further feedback. Once final selections have been determined, approved and purchased, we hope to start piloting elements of the curriculum this spring. Overall, the process has been exciting and we look forward to sharing more in the future.
Facilities Updates
- The district's turf field at Creswell Middle School is heavily used, not only by CMS students and our district athletic teams but by the Creswell community as a whole. At 13 years of age, it has vastly exceeded its expected life span of 8 years and deteriorated significantly. Replacing the synthetic turf will address safety concerns and allow for continued liability coverage for student use, ensuring our school and community will keep benefitting from this valuable resource.
- Later this spring and summer, Creslane Elementary School will undergo a seismic rehabilitation. Currently, were a large seismic event to occur, the older sections of Creslane Elementary School would most likely be compromised and be at a risk of collapse. The seismic retrofit work being completed this summer will bring Creslane Elementary School up to a category III structure, providing enhanced safety structural performance.
