Happy long weekend Packer Families,

The end of the year is absolutely flying by so fast right now, with lots to do and not much time to it. I hope that you are able to take this weekend off and that you and your student/s are able to rest and relax because the next two weeks will be very busy at SSP High School. Please make sure to read over the rest of the newsletter because some very important information can be found in the newsletter. For example:

• The Seniors schedule for their last week of school (which is next week)
• The Final Exam schedule for grades 9-11 for the week of June 5.
• If you have not completed the Family End of the Year Survey please take the time to do that (the survey can be found in the newsletter)
• and much, much more...

SSP High School and CLC graduation ceremonies will air on Town Square Television. You can watch them on Comcast channel 14 or HD 799, or live-streamed on their website townsquare.tv and Facebook Live

This summer, South St. Paul Public Schools is partnering with The Open Door to serve more students free meals in our community. The Open Door picks up meals and brings them to designated spots in the community and serves kids, ages 18 and under, where they are.

As we work to meet our district mission to "Ignite a passion in every learner to inquire, continuously improve, and engage in positively changing our world" and strive to deliver on the Desired Daily Experience we want for our Students, Families, and Staff, district leaders are asking for your feedback regarding South St. Paul Public Schools during this current school year. Your survey responses are anonymous and will help us as we move forward into next school year. District leaders will review and reflect on the responses and comments from this survey. We will use our survey findings to improve district operations and target areas for improvement. Please respond by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The Dakota County Public Health Department recognized a group of TriDistrict Healthcare Careers students for their effort to increase the number of students with lifesaving skills. The group researched the type of training available and arranged to have all the students in the TriDistrict Healthcare Careers class trained in CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and administration of Narcan in case of opioid overdose. Congratulations to SSP Theater Director Eric Holsen for being chosen for the 2023 Theater Educator Award from Spotlight Showcase. He receives this award as an educator who embodies the highest standards in performing education. Spotlight Showcase is Minnesota high school theater’s biggest celebration. More than 1,600 students participate in the awards and recognition event, presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education program. Eric will be honored live at the showcase June 12-13 at the State Theatre in Downtown Minneapolis.

Minnesota law requires that all children are vaccinated against certain diseases or have a legal exemption on file to enroll in school. Students entering 12th grade will be required to have documentation of (or a legal exemption) for the booster dose of meningococcal vaccine. (Most students received the initial dose of this vaccine when they entered 7th grade.)

Teenagers and young adults are at higher risk for meningococcal disease, a serious illness that can lead to an infection of the brain and spinal cord. This booster dose is important to make sure they are fully protected. Here is a link for more information: https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/meningococcal/basics.html

If your child has already had the meningococcal booster shot, which is usually given at age 16, please bring in his/her shot record to the Health Office. If he/she has not had it, plan to get this. We are a "No shots, No school" school district. Your child will not be admitted to classes if we don't have a record of the shot. He/she/they will be sent home.

Packer Athletes working hard to improve themselves and their teams! All SSP athletes (and aspiring athletes) grades 6-12 are invited to join the Summer Strength and Speed program. No better way to be challenged and improve than around fellow SSP athletes and coaches.

Every day, over 3,500 youths start vaping. In 2018 alone, the number of high school students who vape nearly doubled. There is a vaping epidemic in this country, especially among teens.
