Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday! Spending time with those you care about is so important. I hope that you had the opportunity to relax and recharge with your precious children.

We are excited about beginning the new year on a positive note! Please see the flyer below regarding the second SEL session that our counselors are hosting on January 17, 2023. Please attend if possible.

Remember–if you have not joined PTA, this is a great time to do so. PTA does so much for our students and community. If you are unable to physically assist during the day, there are still many areas in which you can provide assistance or be a resource remotely. When we all join, we all benefit! Between January 11, 2023 and February 28, 2023, all English learners in K-12th grade in Georgia will take part in the ACCESS test at school. Please review the information linked below regarding this assessment of English learning.

All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be taking the Georgia Milestones Assessment after Spring Break. Gwinnett County has approved the dates shown below for administration. Please contact Mrs. McClelland (melissa.mcclelland@gcpsk12.org) if you have any questions. More information will be provided as we approach testing.

Monday: Chicken nuggets, lasagna roll, or hummus basket

Tuesday: Nachos or chicken dumplings

Wednesday: Chicken & waffle or veggie nuggets

Thursday: Pizza or BBQ chicken sandwich

Friday: Dill chicken, veggie pinwheel, or meatball sub

Each month, we focus on a different character trait. The character trait for the month of January is Citizenship. Citizenship means trying to make the school and community a better place. Citizenship is an important character trait for our students to exhibit, as we are all a part of a community. Teachers will be looking for students that exhibit this trait during January to be recognized as the “Cub of the Month” with a certificate and free ice cream!

Ever wondered what to do when your child is melting down and having a hard time regulating their feelings? Then this presentation is for you! We are hosting our second SEL Parent Night on January 17th at 5:30pm via zoom. Parents will learn WHY their child is melting down, and HOW they can help them in the moment and in the future to build self-management skills.

It’s time to cozy up with a good book! Be sure to read and log at least 300 minutes during the month of January!

Students will login to Beanstack using their GCPS student number and their birthday month and date (MMDD) as their password. Students are able to log reading minutes either on their laptop or on a mobile device.
