The Buzz
SPRING TERM - 23RD JANUARY 2025
Message from the Executive Headteacher
I am pleased to see the first signs of Spring beginning to appear with Daffodils in the gardens I pass on my walk between the two schools. However, the weather is still very cold so please ensure your child comes equipped for the cold, the admin team regularly has a pile of coats, hats and gloves which parents drop into school and this is difficult for the admin team to manage.
Last week we were pleased to host a coffee morning for the parents at HJS who were able to meet Jess, our Mental Health Support Worker, she works across both schools with children and families and is a real source of information and support. The session focused on providing strategies for parents to manage their child's emotions. Feedback from the parents who attended was very positive.
The absolute highlight of last week were the Bounce Beyond sessions, the children really enjoyed the sessions and all were invited to participate even our Nursery children. Please see the pictures below.
You will notice that this edition of The Buzz is streamlined, each week there will be year group focus but other year groups may not be included. If you wish to know what your child has been learning then please visit the HISN Home Support site which is accessed through the website. We have included the links below.
Your child's attendance at school is very important to us. If you plan on taking your child out of school during the term time, you must complete a term time leave application, you will then receive a response from us. Please read the updated attendance policy to understand what can and can't be authorised.
Finally, over the last few months HPP has been quietly working to develop a new website, we are now in the final stages and will be launching it this term. The new website will have a fresher feel and has a greater emphasis on HPP whilst still having an HISN and HJS area. I will of course update you when we have a launch date.
Have a wonderful weekend once it arrives.

Early Years
Nursery
Nursery have had a super week this week. We donned our explorer hats and went off on an adventure to find a monster. We learnt about positional language as we climbed up a huge high mountain, waded through a deep dark jungle and rowed our boats across the ocean to find our friendly 5 eyed monster! We wonder where our next learning journey will take us next week...hint hint...Chinese dragon dancing...
Reception
This week in Reception we have been diving into 'We're Going to Find the Monster'. The children learned how to make story maps and have been immersed into the story through role play and using Google Earth to explore jungles and oceans around the world. In maths we have been partitioning five into two parts of different amounts using the song 'Five Little Speckled Frogs' as a hook.
Time to talk
We all know how important talking at home is for exposing children to a wide range of vocabulary and ideas. This all helps them with their reading and to become future writers. Each week we will share an idea with you for 'talk homework' with your child.
This week, you could talk to your child about their favourite story from home or school. What happened in the story? What do they like about it? Who is their favourite character?
Parent Volunteers

Beyond Bounce Workshops
The children were very excited to welcome Bounce Beyond back into Hampton Infant School. We all had a turn bouncing on the trampolines to music. We practised bouncing quickly, slowly, high and low as well as bouncing around in a circle. At the end of the session, we had a trampoline disco, all the lights were turned off, disco lights and music was turned on and we showed Laura our amazing bouncing dance moves. The children had loads of fun!
Police Officers visit to HISN
On Monday we were very lucky to have two special guests join us for our assembly. We had PC Hannah and PC Anna from the local police team. They came in to talk to the children about their role in the community and how they can help in an emergency. They reminded the children that the police are always happy to say hello and talk to everyone when out in the community. PC Hannah and PC Anna were asked lots of questions at the end of the assembly and the children learnt lots of interesting facts about the police and their role in our local area.

Current consultations are Education Committee's Solving the SEND Crisis Inquiry and the Law Commission's Review of Disabled Children's Social Care Legislation. We will also use this feedback to answer questions when OFSTED complete their annual engagement meeting on the 21st January and to report to the Richmond SEND Partnership Board.
Messages from the office
Visiting HISN - Drinks on site
If you are coming into school to view your child's work, watch an assembly, showcase etc please do not bring drinks to the school site for health and safety reasons. Thank you.
Medical/dental appointments
Do not forget to send in confirmation of appointments if your child is absent during the day for a medical/dental/ appointment. This makes it easier to code your child's absence correctly. As per our policy we would be grateful if appointments where possible could be made outside school hours.
NHS Pharmacy First Service
The NHS Pharmacy First Service enables children and adults to get convenient access to healthcare advice and treatment where appropriate, for seven common conditions without the potential delay of having to wait for a GP appointment? Accessing the service may mean that we can help children feel better and get back to school as quickly as possible, as well as supporting parents/carers to also get better if they are unwell with one of the conditions covered under the service.
There is no need to make an appointment; parents or carers can pop into their local Boots pharmacy with their child and ask for help under the service.
Support for the following conditions can be accessed under the service, free of charge (unless NHS prescription charges apply):
Earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
Impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
Infected insect bites and stings (aged 1 year and over)
Sore throats (aged 5 years and over)
Sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (aged 16 to 64 years)
- Shingles (aged 18 years and over)
The well being and safety of our children is everyone's responsibility. If you have concerns about a child please contact SPA on 547 5008 or out of hours on 0208 744 2442.
