EMS Raider Student and Family News
January 4th - January 10th
This week's rundown while MAKING GAINS
Welcome Back, Raider Families!
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fun and restful winter break and are ready to start 2025 with great energy and excitement. We can’t wait to welcome our students back to campus and watch them achieve incredible gains this year.
This week’s newsletter is brief due to the short week ahead. Students return to school on Wednesday, January 8th, and it’s crucial they arrive on time every day to start the semester strong.
We look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces on Wednesday morning. Let’s make 2025 a year full of success, growth, and Raider pride!
See you soon!
Your Principal,
Steven Zubiate

OUR GOAL
ATTENDANCE GAINS
Attendance Tip of the Week:
Did you know that if your student is out for a partial day AND they turn in a doctor's note, their attendance can change to a "Doctor's Appointment" code? This code does not count as an absence against your student's attendance.

FINE ARTS
Art/Advanced Art - Mr. Alaniz
Shout out to ALL art classes on their One-point and Two-point Perspective Drawings!
I am excited to inform you that Miranda Guerra’s artwork has been chosen to participate in the prestigious TAEA Youth Art Month (YAM) Spring Exhibition! This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase her talent, as her artwork will be photographed and submitted to the TAEA website. If selected by the jury, Miranda’s original artwork will be prominently displayed in the YAM Spring Exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas, throughout March.
Art - Mr. Marquez
This week students learned about abstract art and the abstract artists, Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, and Francis Bacon. Students looked at the work of each of these artist's techniques and added them to their artworks. These were the results.
I am excited to inform Emily Esparza that her artwork has been chosen to participate in the prestigious TAEA Youth Art Month (YAM) Spring Exhibition! This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase her talent at the state level, as her artwork will be photographed and submitted to the TAEA website. If selected by the jury, Emily’s original artwork will be prominently displayed in the YAM Spring Exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas, throughout March.
Art - Ms. Moeller
Miss Moeller's class has moved on from presents to gingerbread houses, but still in 2 point perspective! We are really working on mastering the concept of space and perspective. Here are some of our presents from last week-- houses are still in the construction phase.
Congratulations and good luck to all those who have entered the photography contest!

SAFETY
CAMPUS SAFETY PROCEDURES
As some of you may have noticed, the district is currently improving our front visitor's vestibule area. As the work progresses, we will need to make some adjustments to ensure we keep our campus safe. Please read the procedures outlined below so you are prepared in the event you need to enter our school building during the school day.
- All visitors must have a valid picture ID.
- Be prepared to show your ID outside of the campus after notifying the receptionist you have arrived, and to have it scanned in our Hall Pass system for a quick background check.
- The doors on the right-hand side are to ENTER the campus only. Doors on the left-hand side are to EXIT the building.
- Should you need to sign your child out for an appointment or the day, you will do so inside of the visitor's vestibule. You may wait inside the vestibule or just outside the front doors for your child.
- The receptionist will check to make sure the person picking up your child is authorized to do so as listed in our student information system.
- Your child will be called down to the visitor's center. As they pass through the area our receptionist will note they are ok to leave, at which time they will exit the building out of the exit only (left-hand side) doors. As you see them come through, you can meet them just outside the campus doors.
- Should you need to come inside the campus at or shortly after dismissal, you will be stopped at the door by an adult who will ask you the reason for your visit. They will communicate with the front office to make sure you are approved entry and you will be permitted to make your way to the front office for further assistance.
- In order to comply with state mandates to safely and effectively control a single entry point for our campus, we are unable to accept food deliveries for your student during lunch. Our visitor center receptionist must remain focused on the task of monitoring entry, check in and processing of identification, monitoring student sign-outs and so on. Again, this is to ensure the safety and security of our single campus entry point. Thank you for your understanding.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding of our new visitor's area procedures. It is up to all of us to help keep our campus (students & adults) safe, and we appreciate your support and partnership in doing so.
If you have any questions or concerns, please make campus administration aware and we can assist you.
