Another one for the cloud
Dear Ross Community,
I want to thank all the people who texted me screenshots of their child's portraits last week--this was unprompted by me, and enormously appreciated. I snorted, giggled, and laughed a lot. I have never in my life seen so many mugshot/outtake/what on earth shots in my life; I really thought it was just us all these years! I saw honorary Addams Family members, persons of interest, quizzical looks to the nth degree--you name it. Out of respect for my Roadrunner I will not share his here, but my favorite was the one where he forced an underbite, closed his eyes, shrugged his shoulders, and crossed his arms in front of him. Truly, truly, the worst photo I've ever seen of my kid. Well done, sir.
This week: don't miss tonight's Pupatella Happy Hour for Ross Run 4 MK, and swing by the Fall merchandise sale this Friday before school. Extra time on your hands on Halloween? Volunteer for Spooktacular, or just attend and have some fun. This weekend: get ready for Halloween with the Little Goblins Parade and Mitchell Park Fall Fun Day! We'll be there with multiple costume changes.
We are getting REAL close to our goal in the Fall for Ross campaign. Three classes are duking it out with over 77% participation in each class! Get in on the drama while you can. 🍧

Fall for Ross: Help Us Get to 100%! Every Donation Counts!
We're almost there! Counting monthly donations, we're only about $11,000 away from our $50,000 Fall for Ross goal - but still are short of our goal for 100% participation. We welcome donations of any size.
Here are some of the numbers:
- This fall, so far we've raised about $38,875 of our $50,000 goal.
- The families of 100 of 173 kids have participated.
- 1st, PK4 and kindergarten are in the lead, with more than 77% of each class giving to Fall for Ross. All classes that reach 100% participation, or the class with the highest participation rate when Fall for Ross ends, will win a 🍧 popsicle party 🍧 and an extra recess!
- We can accept donation matches from companies, so please seek a match if you can - you can double your impact!
- The PTA pays for more than $100,000 in school operational expenses every year, so your donation to Fall for Ross contributes to your child's education, every day.
Your contribution is what matters, not the amount, so please give as you're able: small or large, every donation is important. Each and every donation contributes to improving the learning environment for every student at Ross. All families at Ross are members of the PTA and this is a team effort. Garden Cleanup!
On Sunday, Ross families came together for Ross garden clean-up day. Hands big and small patched and painted the bridge and benches, power-washed the playground, sealed stumps for playing, and planted new plants and trees. Kids also planted bulbs that will sprout in the spring. Today, 2nd graders will plant tree seedlings in the garden as part of a unit they’re studying. Thank you to the PTA garden committee–Shilpi Malinowski, Martin Chorzempa, Tim Hill, Holly Kilness Packett and Awen Southern–and to the parents and kids who joined us. Thank you, as well, to Bartlett Tree Experts for volunteering their time to provide stumps and donating 100 tree seedlings to use in the garden and share with our community.

Ross Merchandise Sale: This Friday, October 25, 8:30-9:00 am

Spooktacular: Thursday, October 31, 5:00-6:00 pm
We still need a few volunteers to help set up, clean up, and hand out a few giveaways. Please sign up here!
The event will take place next Thursday, October 31, on the Ross playground. We invite families to gather at 5:00pm in their costumes for music, pizza, fun giveaways, and to take pictures. After 6:00pm, kids will head out for trick-or-treating on Swann Street (see flyer and below) and other locations. This year students will not be trick-or-treating at 17th Street businesses since Spooktacular is happening on Halloween and because the Little Goblins Parade (Oct 26) offers an opportunity to collect candy from these businesses a few days before. (Note: No costumes/face paint are permitted at Ross during the school day.) Questions? Contact ptapresident@rosselementary.org.
Swann Street will host its annual Halloween Party on the 1700 block (Swann St between 17th and 18th) from 5:30-8:00 pm. There will be trick-or-treating, free food/drinks, music, and a costume parade at 7:00 pm! Our family loves this event because the street is closed to traffic and the kids can run around safely and have a great time. 🎃 Questions? Contact Jen at jknielsen@gmail.com.
