Welcome Back to Vance County High School!
Dear Vance County High School Students and Families,
As we gear up for another exciting school year, I am thrilled to welcome you back to Vance County High School!
Last year, we made great strides together, fostering a supportive and dynamic learning environment where our students could thrive. We aim to build on that foundation this year and continue the positive momentum. Our dedicated teachers and staff are ready to inspire, challenge, and support every student to reach their full potential.
Important Reminders:
Be on Time: Punctuality is key to academic success and sets the tone for a productive day. Please ensure you arrive on time to start each day, ready to learn and engage.
Dress Code: Adhering to the dress code helps maintain a focused and respectful learning environment. Please review the dress code policy and dress appropriately each day.
Behavior: We are committed to maintaining a positive and respectful school culture. Please be mindful of your behavior and actions in and out of the classroom. Kindness, respect, and responsibility are values we uphold and expect from all members of our school community.

Ms. Ronique Golding
Ms. Ronique A. Golding, a Jamaican teacher of English Language Arts with a BA in Secondary Teacher Education from Northern Caribbean University and six years of experience, is passionate about guiding students to become independent learners with a growth mindset and a lifelong love of learning, while also being dedicated to their achievement and personal growth.
Ms. Gloria Holden
Henderson native has dedicated all of her 23 years in education to the students of Vance County Public Schools (L.B Yancey, the former Henderson Middle School and her pride and joy Vance County Middle School home of the Jaguars!) She joins VCHS as the new AVID elective teacher. Undergraduate studies at Saint Augustine’s University, Raleigh NC,; Master Studies at NCCU in Physical Education and Special Education. Ms. Holden loves to travel. She’s a member of the Oxford-Henderson Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Mr. Todd Jeffreys
Originally hailing from the Midwest and now residing in northern Warren County, Mr. Jeffreys is a proud NC State University graduate. After a diverse career in textiles, aerospace, construction, medical supply chain, and parks and recreation, he has recently retired. He now focuses on teaching carpentry, aiming to equip his students with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve success in both their professional and personal lives.
Mr. Montellus Williams
Ms. Joy Wright
Community Schools Coordinator
Ms. Wright's responsibility is to engage with students, staff, administration, and community supports to set goals, evaluate progress, and support community school development. She works closely with students, understanding their needs and aspirations to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. By collaborating with staff and administration, Ms. Wright ensures that educational strategies and policies are effective.Ms. Jenel Henry
An experienced and passionate international teacher from Jamaica, Ms. Henry brings a deep love for educating today’s youth . Adept in creating student friendly classrooms with the standards of our education system in American History class. Holding a second upper class degree in History and Geography in Education, Ms. Henry excels as a facilitator of powerful learning experiences. She empowers students to guide certain lessons and lead with curiosity, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
Ms. Ann Tonette Alvaran
Ms. Alvaran is a BS Psychology graduate with a Masters in Special Education from the Philippines. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience in both private and public schools and has taught multi-grade levels. She started at EM Rollins Elementary as a self-contained teacher and is now joining VCHS also as a self-contained teacher. She emphasizes joy in the learning process while promoting holistic learning. She takes pride in finally teaching in the USA.
Mr. Jaron Cox, M.A.Ed.
We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Jaron Cox, M.A.Ed. to Vance County High School as our new Director of Bands! With 12 years of experience in music education, Mr. Cox brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Over the years, he has taught a wide range of subjects including Middle School and High School band, choir, guitar, business, music history, and general music, as well as serving as an instructional designer-technologist. His ensembles have performed for events like the Charlotte Hornets Basketball, and his students have been featured in honor bands at Virginia Tech and across North Carolina.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Cox is an accomplished Christian Rock artist, having won three awards from Christian/Gospel radio. He also leads worship at Tally Ho First Baptist Church in Stem, NC. Together with his wife, Carly Cox, they run Classically Candid Photography, capturing everything from headshots, prom and senior photos, to weddings. They are proud parents to two children: a six-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
We look forward to the energy and creativity Mr. Jaron Cox, M.A.Ed. will bring to our music program!
Mr. Richard Batts
Mr. Richard Batts has been employed with the North Carolina School System since 1999, most of these years with the Vance County School System.He has a BA degree from Shaw University, as well as an Associate degree in Funeral Services from Fayetteville Tech Community College.
Mr. Batts has been pastoring in the Henderson area since 1987 with a brief pastorate in Duplin County from 2001-2005. Mr. Batts is a native of Duplin County and currently resides in Henderson with his wife of 37 years, Mrs. Debra Hall Batts. The couple has one son, Dante C. Champion Batts.
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Batts to our school community! His dedication and support for both students and staff in our self-contained classes are truly valued. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to the positive impact his presence will bring. It's time for you, the students, to register for the 2024 Elections! Please fill out the Google Form in your email to register for the Voters Registration Presentation. Officials will be on campus this Friday, August 16th, to help you become registered for this upcoming year.
Important things you'll need
- Personal Identification: driver's license, photo ID
- Must be 17 or older (if 17, must be 18 by November 1st)
- Know the last four of your social security number
