Week of September 30, 2024
Jog-A-Thon is on Thursday, October 10th
Jog-A-Thon is next week! See the schedule below of the running times for each grade. Spectators are welcome this year. All visitors must sign in at the front door entry.
Note from Ms. Do:
We are so grateful for our community's support during the Jog-A-Thon. It's a dynamic and energetic annual event. Students love receiving new Jog-A-Thon shirts each year. They will wear them that day and on school spirit days/assemblies:) The donations raised from the event will allow the Oak Hills Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to fund additional support for the student body and enrichment opportunities. The enrichment activities and support include field trips, after school and lunch clubs, On the Move during recess, teacher grants for supplies and classroom materials, books, family events such as Fall Fest, Global Fair, STEM Night, author's visit, special assemblies, and much more! THANK YOU for considering a donation, volunteering your time before and during the event, pumping your kids up, and cheering them on the day of the event! It means so much to everyone!
Note from PTO:
Our fundraising goal is $35k this year. As of Monday morning, we have raised about $13,500. Please register through Pledgestar to get started or continue with your fundraising today! Thank you!
Picture Day Follow-up
If you missed ordering photos of your student before last week’s picture day, you can still do so on the Dorian website within 4 days of the picture day. After 4 days, they load images into online galleries and parents must have a personalized access key to order. This is for the privacy and security of the students.
For those who have not ordered, the personalized key will be delivered on a second chance card in the box with your finished pictures or via email. If you need the code sooner you can contact customer support at 800-826-3535 or visit dorianstudio.com and click on the "How do I get my Access Key?" button.
All orders placed online after the 4-day grace period will be shipped directly to the parent's home.
News from Ms. Larsen
Returning Library Books - We encourage students to return their library books as soon as they are finished with them and not wait until library day since our rotation is every 8 days. This way your child can also ask his/her teacher about going to Open Library to check out another book, if desired, before the next library class.
Volunteering: if you are interested in volunteering in the library to help with our Book Fair or OBOB, please email Ms. Larsen.
OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) Resources:
We will be forming OBOB teams beginning this week at school. Each class will be notified of their OBOB meeting date. Oct 3rd for 4th, Oct 4th for 5th and 3rd grade teachers will meet to form the teams within their classes.
OBOB Registration forms will be going home with 3rd - 5th graders between Oct 3-16th. Please read the forms carefully and sign and return the forms by Oct 24th. OBOB is a great way to volunteer during lunch recess times. We need lots of volunteers!

District News
Answer the Call for Beaverton schools!
It’s calling season! Between October 7-15, over 300 Beaverton School District high school students will volunteer their time and energy to reach nearly 20,000 community members during the Beaverton Education Foundation’s annual student-volunteer calling event.
Students participating in Answer the Call enhance and refine communications and marketing skills during all five call nights. These practical life and work skills are a bonus that students and future employers both value.
If you see “Beaverton Education Foundation” on your caller ID in October, please answer the call!
Raptor System--Oak Hills Volunteer System
All visitors to Beaverton School District sites will need to be processed through the Raptor Visitor System. Visitors are defined as anyone who does not have a district key badge to Oak Hills. We can no longer have visitors enter the building for a quick moment to grab a lost coat or use the restroom without signing in. This is new district guidance. We appreciate your understanding and parternership.
There is a kiosk set up in the main office (see image below). Below is an overview for entry. Note: There will be a volunteer option in the future, but for now volunteers need to enter the school as "visitors."
Overview of Sign-In Process
You will scan a form of identification (DMV issued ID). The scanner will request you scan the front and back of the ID. If for some reason you do not have your ID with you when you enter the building, you will enter your name and date of birth for processing.
Next, you will be prompted to take a picture (selfie).
Please select the destination of your visit (e.g. classroom, library, cafeteria, office).
A sticker badge will print out with your picture, name, and destination.
Upon completing your visit, scan your badge sticker to log out. You do not rescan your regular ID at this point.
Front office staff will be here to support you through this new process. The district continues to receive feedback about the new guidelines and process. If you have concerns or questions, please connect with the office assistants, Ms. Do, or Ms. Hansen.
