The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is looking to recruit high-quality, top-tier students with an aptitude for research. UNL focus is to attract students from the Midwest to our graduate programs and would like to invite your students to participate in a virtual graduate information event. The School of Computing event is on Saturday, October 22, 2022, 9:00AM-noon (CST) via Zoom.

For these events, we want to invite students who may be interested in attending graduate school in the Midwest region. Our graduate programs include:

· MS in Computer Science,

· MS in Computer Science with Computer Engineering Specialization,

· MS in Computer Science with Bioinformatics Specialization,

· PhD in Computer Science,

· PhD in Computer Engineering,

· PhD in Computer Science with Bioinformatics Specialization, and

· Joint PhD in Computer Science and Mathematics.

UNL is a Carnegie Research-1 university (R1 university) and a member of the Big Ten conference. Our SoC conducts active research in key core computer science and engineering and multi-disciplinary areas with several projects funded by federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation and Department of Defense with research expenditures totaling more than $5 million annually. As a result, they are looking for promising students to join our graduate programs as research assistants.

By attending this event, the students will:

1. learn valuable information regarding our School of Computing graduate programs,
2. meet UNL SoC faculty members and current graduate students,
3. be eligible for GRE wavier and application fee reimbursement

Argonne invites you and your students to the Laboratory’s fourth annual First Look@Argonne – A STEM Recruitment Event for Underrepresented Groups Conference on Friday, October 28, 2022. This year’s conference will be conducted virtually. The half-day info session will provide you and students with the opportunity to:

• Learn about the Department of Energy (DOE) complex and Argonne’s mission science research.
• Explore Argonne’s campus and research facilities virtually.
• Network with Argonne researchers and engineers across the many different STEM disciplines.
• Learn about summer and year-round research opportunities for undergraduate students.
• Connect with current and past interns.
• Consider participation in a tandem event, Mini-Semester, to further prepare you for an internship at a national laboratory.

Their goal for this conference is to show students the diverse STEM research and opportunities at Argonne and across the DOE laboratory complex, and the support they offer in navigating the summer internship application process.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All are invited to register and attend! This includes faculty, administrators, and students from freshman to 5th year seniors.

Ideally, student registrants should:

• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a community college or four-year higher education institution in a STEM discipline.
• Have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a United States citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
• Identify as an underrepresented group (URG) in STEM.

Additionally, each student will need to complete their own application.

The 25th Annual Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 20-22, 2023. The conference is open to outstanding undergraduate mathematicians of at least sophomore standing. Students will have the opportunity to meet others who share their interest in the mathematical sciences, and those who already have done research will be given an opportunity to present their results. Applications will be accepted from undergraduate presenters October 3 through October 10; non-presenter registrations will be accepted for as long as we have space through December 2, 2022. The registration fee is $50.

UpTurnships works with sophomores, juniors, and seniors of any major who are interested in business (Finance, Marketing, Graphic Design, Data Analytics, Operations, Supply Chain, IT) opportunities. Unique to next year, UpTurnships will also be holding an internship program in the Duluth, MN area for students who live in or can live in the area.

The Girls Dream Code is a non-profit based in Minnesota. Their mission is to empower young girls of color to pursue an interest in technology by providing free tech workshops, events & resources. Their goal is to promote opportunities in technology, learn tech skills, decrease the gender & diversity gap in tech, increase inclusivity, and create a safe space for young girls to feel comfortable and excel in all that they do.

The Girls Dream Code is looking to hire part-time computer science instructors for our upcoming coding programs to teach computer science based courses to middle & high school students. The program will run after school in the late afternoon-early evening, for 1-2 days a week. Curriculum training & course material will be provided to the instructor. This is going to be in person and the instructor should be based in the Twin Cities area. Pay would range from $25-$30 an hour. Must have time flexibility!

This is a great opportunity to give back to underserved & underrepresented students and provide them with resources that will help them succeed!

The application for GPiBS will open on August 1st, 2022 with a priority deadline of December 1st. If you are interested in pursuing a PhD in the Biomedical Sciences, please inquire about their programs. OUHSC is a comprehensive medical campus home to cutting edge research facilities and top-tier scientists. Their 2.5:1 PhD student-to-post-doc ratio equates to students being the major drivers of our research enterprise, as evidenced by GPiBS publication numbers (5.3 manuscripts per PhD graduate!).
