It is hard to believe that another year has gone by and it is time to say farewell to our Fifth grade students. Next year at Bryant several of our teachers are making transitions to different grade levels and we have hired some new staff due to our increasing enrollment. Listed below are the new staff and teachers who are transitioning to different grade levels:

• Ms. Catherine Lippke will be teaching first grade
• Ms. Alexa Sandford will be teaching Kindergarten
• Mrs. Kristi Wiederhold will be moving from her second grade position to first grade
• Mrs. Katelyn Girard will be moving from her first grade position to second grade
• Mrs. Megan Collier will be moving from her fifth grade position to fourth grade

As you already know I will be retiring at the end of the school year. Dr. Angela Holcomb the former Riverside Elementary Principal will be replacing me. It has been such a pleasure to work with so many wonderful students, parents and staff during my past 12 years at Bryant. I will certainly miss everyone but will continue to remain connected with Bryant School. Thank you for all of your support and sharing your children with me.

Welcome to Bryant! I graduated from Morningside College in 1994 with a Bachelors in Science of Nursing. I have worked as a School Nurse since 2003. Your child needs these immunizations for school in Iowa. Iowa Immunization Law requires your child to receive:

Children in grades K-12 need these vaccines at required time intervals:

• 5 doses of Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP)
• 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine before entering 7th grade or born on or after September 15, 2000.
• 4 doses of Polio
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B
• 2 doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
• 2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) or history of disease
• 1 dose of Meningococcal (A,C,W,Y) vaccine before entering 7th grade and 2 doses or one after the age of 16 before entering 12th grade if born after September 15, 1999.

Children in Preschool (PS) or Transitional Kindergarten (TK) need at required time intervals:

• 4 doses of Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP)
• 3 doses of Polio
• Up to 3 doses of haemophilus influenza type B (HIB) depending on age of child
• Up to 4 doses of Pneumococcal depending on age of child

Vision Screening Requirements

According to Iowa law, all children enrolling in kindergarten and 3rd grade are required to evidence of a vision screening no earlier than 1 year prior to enrollment and no more than 6 months after the date of your student’s enrollment. Kindergarten

Dental Screening Requirements

According to Iowa law, all Iowa children enrolling for the first time in Kindergarten must have a dental screening on file. It’s required per Iowa law! According to this law: Screening must occur no earlier than 1 year before enrollment and no later than 4 months after enrollment. If you think you have already sent this form to school, please double check with your student to make sure that they have turned it into the nurse’s office. Screenings can be performed by dentists or dental hygienists.

2020-2021 BRYANT KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Our Kindergarten registration is open for enrollment. Children who will be entering Kindergarten next fall should have received a packet in the mail on the next steps to register your child and the required documents that need to be turned in. If you did not get a packet in the mail please email the office manager at foremac@live.siouxcityschools.com.

Note: A child must be 5 years old on or before September 15, 2020 to be eligible for admission to Kindergarten. A copy of the birth certificate and immunization record will be required at registration.

Census Day is observed on April 1, 2020. Households begin receiving invitations to participate in the Census in mid-March. There are three ways to complete the census – online, by phone, or by mail – and the Census Bureau provides forms in 14 languages. Census Data And The Impact on Public Schools

Public schools in Iowa will be directly impacted by the 2020 census. The 2010 census estimated there were 731,975 children in Iowa ages 0-18. Children ages 0-4 are typically undercounted, and Iowa estimates 4,726 children were not included in the census.

Iowa receives over $8 billion annually from the federal government based on population estimates from the 2010 census, including funds for Special Education Grants, the National School Breakfast & Lunch Programs, Head Start, and many other education programs vital to the success of Iowa’s children. Those 4,726 children who weren’t counted in 2010 are now in grades 6-9, and the state has lost out on millions of dollars in federal funding each year for those children’s education.

We cannot let the census become another barrier to the funding of our student’s educations. The Sioux City Community School District is asking for the help and support of all families in our district to ensure that every child is counted.
