Our Mission: “To share the Good News of Jesus Christ, teach children, and assist parents in training children to be witnessing Christians and productive citizens.”
Weekly Devotion
“So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, ‘I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.’ And all the people answered, ‘His blood be on us and on our children!’ Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.” (Matthew 27:24-26)
The Jews did not know what they are asking. Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, washing his hands of his blood. Even though he probably didn’t really believe he was dealing with God in the flesh, the One who had come to rescue mankind from death, the immorality of the situation still burned in his heart.
“His blood be on us and on our children!” It’s as if they said, “We’ll take all the credit, all the responsibility for this. Just nail Him to the cross for us.” Sadly, they are calling down the highest curse upon themselves. They are eternally responsible before the judge of the universe for murdering the Savior of the world.
But we are not without sin. Jesus came to save us from ours, too. He came to save us from prioritizing other things above His Word and gifts He gives to His church. He comes to save us from gossiping about the people and institutions He has put around us, both online and off. He has come to save us from serving our own interests and neglecting to lend a hand to others who need it. He has come to save us from sin and death. His blood is on us, too.
“The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin,” says St. John (I John 1:7). We we come to Him, confessing our sins and lamenting our failure to love Him and our neighbor, His blood becomes the purchase price that buys us back from the sin and death into which we have sold ourselves. Jesus uses the wickedness of men—both then and now—to bring about the victory over sin and death. He marks us with His blood—we are baptized into His death and He even gives it to us to drink—to save us from the curse of sin.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, forgive us for failing to love You with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength and our neighbors as ourselves. May Your saving blood be upon us and our children. Amen.
