Hello Hollywood Beach Elementary Families,


Thank you families for a great start of the 2024-2025 school year! I am happy to be part of the amazing Hollywood Beach community. If you need to get in touch with me, please feel free to reach out to the office or by email: mshallenberger@hueneme.org


Office and Hours: Our office is open daily from 7:30-4:00 daily. Please call the office at 805-986-8720 with any additional questions. Just a reminder that there is a doorbell on the left hand side of the door. Please ring it once for office staff to let you inside. When you hear a buzzing sound simply pull the handle. Please knock if you don't see the doorbell.


A SHINE Homework message:

  • In order to help your child complete homework, and to get the most out of their experiences in our enrichment classes, please try to pick up students after 4:30 PM, if possible.
  • If that isn't possible, please pick up your student at the end of one of the scheduled sessions during SHINE, as listed on the schedules sent home. A poster with those times will also be posted in the cafeteria as well.

    • Breakfast & Lunch: For the 2024-2025 school year, our cafeteria will be serving breakfast and lunch at no cost to our families. This is part of an ongoing California grant for the district under the universal feeding program. Families can find the menu by going to the school website, clicking the menu button on the right hand side, the click the circle button labeled "dining". Please work with your student to plan lunches accordingly. Our office staff will be working to limit class interruptions to the classrooms during instruction time.

    We are excited to share that Grades 4-6 are now eating hot lunch outside vs. inside the cafeteria. Thank you students for keeping our area clean and recycling outdoors! Next week our Grades 1-3 will join the outdoor dining experience!


    Safety First: Safety is important in and around our school! There is limited parking at Hollywood Beach and drop off and pick up gets busy! Please do your very best to find a parking spot. Please refrain from dropping students off in the middle of the street and use crosswalks/crossing guards to help get our students safely to school! Thank you in advance for your help!


    Entering School: For the 2024-2025 school year, we will have the walk up gate and drive up gate open. If your child is having breakfast, please have them enter at either of the gates listed above when gates open. We will start to open the gates at 7:40 am instead of 7:45 am. Students should only come through the office if they are receiving a tardy slip.

    Monday, September 16, 2024- NO SCHOOL: Teacher professional development day

    Back to School Night

    We hope you can join us for Back to School Night on Thursday, Sept. 19th from 5:00-6:30. PTA will start with a short meeting at 5:00 with classroom presentations to follow. Presentation 1: 5:30-6:00 and Presentation 2: 6:00-6:30.

    PTA Fundraiser

    Our big PTA fundraiser will be kicking off on Wednesday, Sept. 18th with a virtual zoom presentation in the classrooms. Parents will be getting information about this fundraiser soon!

    Fall Picture Day

    Fall Picture Day is Friday, Sept. 27th!

    Transitional Kindergarten and Kinder

    Every Wednesday, TK&K dismiss at 12:00.

    8:00 a.m. Instruction begins

    We will be adding a 7:55 bell to our campus this year. Students should be in the classroom at 8:00 when instruction begins.

    Lunch Drop Off- before 11:00 am

    The lunch cart is located outside the office. If your child forgets their lunch, please label it and place it inside the container. The cart goes to the cafeteria at 11:00 am.

    Counselors Corner- A note from Mrs. Hixon

    Hello Beach Pelican Families and welcome to a brand-new school year! I am excited to see so many familiar faces and am enjoying getting to know our new Pelicans. This year, I will be visiting each classroom at least once a month to deliver lessons that support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills of all students. For September, we will focus on the program “Start with Hello.” This program teaches children how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. You can start with hello in three simple steps: 1) See Someone Alone, 2) Reach out and Help, and 3) Start with Hello. Fostering inclusion and community is an important life skill and, with practice, can be simple to do every day. There is no age limit to reaching out to and helping others! If you are interested in learning more about the “Start with Hello” program, including activities to do at home, please visit my website available from the Hollywood Beach School main page. I look forward to working with your students this year!
