Walden Pond 2024
Mr. Smeltzer’s Latin II, III and IV classes made a memorable trek out to Walden Pond and North Bridge in Concord, Ma, on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The students were analyzing and drawing attention to Thoreau’s ideas as they relate to the philosophy of Roman Stoicism. The purpose of the trip was to further explore the ways in which Henry David Thoreau related the idea of carpe diem into his own life at the pond. Many students commented on the natural beauty of the pond and Thoreau’s advice to live life deliberately. We also visited the birthplace of the Revolutionary War at North Bridge to see if we could hear “the shot heard round the world”. Special thanks to Mike Turner for helping out with the trip.
Cross-Cultural Collaboration: High Schools Shine in Mandarin Exchange Program
We are delighted to share the success of the recent collaboration between students from our school, Barnstable High School, and Mashpee High School in an enriching Mandarin exchange program. The event saw students engaging in a myriad of activities, including Chinese speaking and reading competitions, a thrilling round of Jeopardy about Chinese culture, and captivating performances ranging from Chinese music and dance to song.
This gathering marked the second time these three schools have joined forces, further solidifying the bond and partnership between us. Such initiatives not only promote cultural exchange but also foster a spirit of camaraderie and mutual learning among our students.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all those involved in making this event a resounding success. It is through such collaborative efforts that we continue to enrich the educational experience of our students and strengthen the ties within our community. Here's to many more fruitful collaborations in the future!
