A MESSAGE FROM DR. ELLISON
Dear Glen Grove Families,
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful week! We are well into the routines of teaching and learning at Glen Grove and it has been a pleasure serving your amazing children each and every day.
I want to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of regular attendance at school. It is essential for your child’s academic and social development. Every day your child is in school, they are building on what they learned the day before, engaging in discussions, and participating in hands-on activities that enrich their understanding of the world around them. When students miss school, they miss more than just assignments—they miss valuable learning experiences and opportunities to connect with peers and teachers.
Of course, we want students to stay home if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. We also understand that family emergencies and events arise occasionally. However, if your child is well enough to come to school, please work with us to ensure our Gators get here whenever possible. We are all in this together, and making sure your child can learn and grow is our priority at Glen Grove. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can support your child or family in any way.

STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES
We appreciate your cooperation in making Glen Grove a safe and welcoming place for our students during entry and exit. Our staff will be out welcoming and helping our families understand these procedures during the start and end of the school day.
Morning Drop-Off: Car drop-offs occur in the West parking lot and all car lane students enter door B. Students should exit the cars in the designated area close to door B. Please do not let your child out of the car before the designated exit area as it is unsafe and slows down the car lane. We will open the doors of the school at 7:30.
Afternoon Pick-Up: Car pick-ups will also occur at Door B. Please enter the line in the West parking lot. We will have students enter cars from the designated area close to Door B. Our staff will be there supporting students and drivers to ensure both safety and efficiency.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in making our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone. A safe and efficient car lane requires everyone to work together.
STUDENT MATERIALS & LUNCH DROP OFF DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
We will continue with the procedures put in place last year as a result of improvements made to all D34 buildings. The outer door to the vestibule will be locked throughout the school day. While this is great for safety and security, it will make it a bit more challenging to receive forgotten student items during the school day. While we understand that students forget things from time to time, we also want to minimize classroom disruptions and traffic in the office.
If you are dropping something off for your child in the middle of the school day, please leave it labeled on the cart in the vestibule. Our office staff will do a morning and afternoon check of the cart and notify teachers. We will also do a student delivery of materials before lunchtime to ensure everyone has what they need for lunch and recess.

ILLINOIS FLAG DRAWING CONTEST
NEWS FROM THE LRC
Celebrate!
National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15th to October 15th and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. Students have access in Destiny, to the National Hispanic Heritage Collection, where they can find a variety of books celebrating the month. Join the district on October 15th at Attea Middle School from 5:30-7:30 for performances, activities, and more!
The Sora App
Students can access eBooks and audiobooks on their iPads, thanks to the partnership the district has with the Glenview Public Library. During LRC time last week, 4th and 5th grade classes reviewed how to log on to the Sora app and checkout materials available through the Digital Library of Illinois. Students can find thousands of titles to check out. They are also able to place holds for popular titles. Listening to an audiobook is a great way to spend time. It increases a student's vocabulary and comprehension skills. 3rd grade classes will be introduced to Sora later this year.

SCIENCE NEWS
Get ready 3rd & 5th grade scientists! Your 1st science unit is on the horizon! Stay tuned for more in the next few weeks.
Our 4th grade Earth scientists have begun hands-on explorations of how different agents of erosion change the shape of the Earth. Through the use of sand, water, ice, and clay with a little bit of tech worked in, we've successfully sped up typically slow Earth processes to see just how water, wind, ice, and gravity transform Earth's crust over time. Very soon we will be taking the knowledge we've collected and applying it to a nearby real world scenario: Lake Michigan shoreline erosion. More to come as we work our way closer to the end of Unit 1.
Out of School Family Science Opportunities
For all Gator families, there is an awesome opportunity THIS weekend (short notice, I know) to meet a world famous storm chaser at Stevenson High School. You can learn more about the event here.
And are you looking for something to do on Institute Day (9/27), The Field Museum is offering FREE admission that day for all Illinois residents! Check out the details of the special free Friday here.
Art Clubs are full!
If your student handed in their art club form on Monday or Tuesday, they were placed into one of their art club choices! Those who turned in their forms after Tuesday have been placed on waiting lists.
Students should have brought home a brightly colored form this week notifying you of the particular club they are in. Please turn in the bottom portion with the money as you are able (preferably before their club starts). Please note the dates of that club. I will also send reminders home the week before.
It is wonderful to have so many students interested in art! Feel free to email with any questions you may have.
