🪖End-of-Year Updates & the 2023-2024 Yearbook Sneak Peek 🥰
Dear Salcha Families,
I am writing to you today with a lot of exciting information! First, I want to acknowledge that April is the Month of the Military Child. This Friday, April 19th is Purple Up Day! We encourage all our students and staff to wear purple to show support for our military families.
Military-Connected Families, please complete an I'm a Proud Child of a Veteran poster and turn it into the front office. We're proud to hang them up all month. Download the PDF below.
Speaking of showing support, our school has been nominated as a Purple Heart School! This is a huge honor that recognizes our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. The 3rd annual Purple Star Schools Recognition Ceremony is April 27th, and we would love for you to join us as we celebrate!
We are also excited to announce Spirit Week, which kicks off next week, April 22nd. There will be a, you guessed it, military/patriotic theme each day, so be sure to check out the attached flyer for details. It is all in fun. The more community spirit the better. Participation is always optional.
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program:
- 4/22/24 - Longan Fruit
- 4/29/24 - Pineapple, Mixed, Cut
- 5/6/24 - Strawberries
Here are some other upcoming dates to keep on your radar:
- Ms. Cox’s 5th graders will be visiting North Pole Middle School on April 25th.
- Ms. Cox’s 4th and 5th graders will have a campout at Calypso Ecology Farm on April 26th.
- Please note that April 26th is an early dismissal day.
- North Pole staff will visit us on May 1st to help our 5th graders register for classes.
- Outdoor School will be on May 8th. Here's a glimpse of what to expect: It will be a fun-filled day spent entirely outdoors! The students will rotate through eight stations that combine learning and enjoyment. There will be four stations in the morning, followed by a recess lunch break outdoors. In the afternoon, the students will rotate through four more stations. This is a great opportunity for them to explore, experiment, and connect with nature. We would love to have parent volunteers for half or the entire day! If you're interested in lending a hand, please don't hesitate to contact me, Mr. Hoy, by email or phone, or simply stop by the office.
- Salcha Safety Day will be on May 9th - Outdoor Lessons: First Responder, Road Safety, Lifejacket Safety).
- We will have an all-school and family hike on May 10th at 11:00 AM. This will be followed by s'mores.
- Also on May 10th, the 5th Grade Lock-in, a fun tradition for our fifth graders to mark their transition to middle school. If you'd like to volunteer and help make this event a success, please contact Ms. Cox or the front office.
- The last day of school is May 17th. There will be a student race in the morning, followed by a graduation ceremony and a community picnic. Exact times, coming soon.
I am also writing to let you know that we are currently hiring for a half-time Student Behavior Support Technician, half-time Classroom Tutor, and full-time Day Custodian/Kitchen Manager. Each position comes with a competitive benefits package. If you are interested in learning more, please contact the school office or the Salcha jobs page within the Human Resources Department on the district website.
Finally, a reminder that yearbooks have been ordered! Every student has a copy reserved in their name until May 10th. Please send in $10 before that date to guarantee your child’s copy. On May 10th, all yearbooks will go up for sale on a first come basis.
Thank you so much for your continued support of Salcha Elementary School!
Sincerely,
Nick Hoy
Principal

As a Title I school, it is imperative that all of our families complete the Free/Reduced Meal Program Application. This goes a long way in helping us to keep our federal funding.

❤️ How We Speak Matters ❤️
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to children at eligible elementary schools during the school day. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children. The FFVP also encourages healthier school environments by promoting nutrition education.
