A Message from SHS Administration
Surveys during Hornet Time and Tri 2 Failing Grade Letters
Message for Families of 9th-12th grade students:
Saline Area Schools is partnering with the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) to enhance the education experiences of students through the integration of experiential and applied learning. WISD has partnered with an education market research firm, Hanover Research, to conduct a survey. The survey is intended to gather detailed insights from a broad spectrum of the district's community, including students (Grades 6 -12), parents, educational staff, and community members. The insights collected from this survey will highlight current perceptions, programming needs, and potential gaps in the district's educational offerings and will be instrumental in guiding the district's future educational strategies and investments, ensuring that they are both effective and reflective of the community's educational aspirations. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. WISD will receive survey results from Hanover Research in aggregate form only (i.e., no personally identifiable information will be collected or reported). This survey will be distributed to students during Hornet Time in the coming week, and families are encouraged to participate using this link. Families are able to preview the survey before their students participate. If you have any concerns about your students' participation, please reach out to 9th Grade Principal Musetta Deneen.
----------------------------------------------------
As part of the required regular program evaluation cycle, the District, in partnership with the SAS Sex Education Advisory Board, surveys families to gather their input and feedback regarding the sex education programming offered in Saline Area Schools. Similar to all full-district surveys, the Saline Area Schools will work with their data collection partner, K12 Insight, to gather this information. The parent/family survey will be sent with a direct link via email on December 9th to the primary contact listed in our Powerschool database. This survey will close on December 20th. If you do not receive a survey, you can contact the research team at east@k12insight.com who help administer our surveys.
In addition to gathering this information from our families, we will also be issuing a survey to High School students to gather their perspectives from their experience with the Saline Area Schools Sex Education programming. Families can preview the High School student survey here. To opt-out your High School student from taking the survey please complete this form by December 13.

Tri 2 Failing Grade Letters- the first round of letters will be sent to students/families on Thursday, 12/19. SHS has a variety of Tutoring/Support options, which will accompany our letter. Click Here to view our tutoring options.
Transportation Lost and Found
The Department of Transportation has compiled lost and found items from buses this season. Since these items cannot be traced back to individual buildings, families with missing items are encouraged to visit the Operations Center Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at 1255 Tefft Court through December 20.
The Saline High School Writing Center is a place where students can receive help during any stage of the writing process. Its mission is to promote positive change and growth within the community through writing. For the Writing Center to function, however, it needs a team of highly-motivated, equity-minded, self-directed, conscientious, and collaborative individuals who are passionate about writing. If this sounds like you, and you are a current sophomore or junior, consider applying to be a consultant in the Writing Center during the 2025-2026 school year. Working in the Writing Center for a trimester is the equivalent of half an English credit. If you are interested in applying, scan the QR code or visit our website: tinyurl.com/shswritingctr <http://tinyurl.com/shswritingctr>. Applications are due by Thursday, December 19 at 11:59 p.m. Please let Ms. Clark (clarkma@salineschools.org <mailto:clarkma@salineschools.org>) or Mrs. Denzin (denzinj@salineschools.org <mailto:denzinj@salineschools.org>) know if you have any questions!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Welcome to the 2nd Trimester at Saline High School! Consistent attendance provides students the opportunity to make critical connections, establish daily routines, and build self-confidence in a supportive environment. From time to time, illnesses occur, appointments must be made, and other circumstances of life may happen. As such, there will be times when a student may need to be absent. However, to help your students develop their whole selves, please make every effort to prioritize school attendance.

Drop Off and Pick Up Issues
Our parking lots see more than a thousand cars each day. There are also 1600 students plus our consortium guests who walk through them. It is ALL of our responsibility to keep them safe.
Follow the yellow arrows in the graphic below for drop off and pick up loops.
On the west side, cars should NOT be parked in the dotted lined areas against the boulevard at any point during school drop off or pick up time. This space is required for cars to drive through.
After picking up your student, proceed all the way to the stadium end of the lot and turn left to exit the lot. A u-turn in the lot is dangerous and could result in an accident or harm to our students and staff.
It is imperative that we all do our part to keep these areas safe. Thank you for your attention to this.
Drop off loops
Please follow the yellow arrows for our student drop-off loops. Red "X" and blue "*" areas are not for pick-up or drop off UNLESS you are dropping off a student with special needs.
Please contact school administration if you have any questions.
Drop off/Pick up
We continue to have parents wait to pick up students in the staff/special needs lot (see diagram below). It is imperative that pickups happen in the north loop on the east side if you are picking your students up before the end of the day.
In addition, students who have placement during the day that return to SHS should not be parking in this lot.
On the west side, the spots with dotted lines that are in the drop off loop are not for parking during school hours.
We will periodically have monitors out to help instruct those who are in the wrong area for pickup.
Thank you for your attention to this.
The Saline Unified Sports team has been working hard to make unified sports a reality in our district. Along with games scheduled against Dexter and Milan during the season for the high school, we are also playing Dexter at Little Caesar's Arena before a Pistons game on Friday, January 31. Heritage will also be competing against Dexter.
Our Unified program receives $5 for every ticket sold and will receive an additional $500 if we sell over 100 tickets.
