Hello folks; and welcome to another edition of Dorm Happenings here at KSB. We have another busy week planned here at KSB as we continue the path to the end of the 23-24 school year. We are entertaining our final elementary school short course group of students for the year. On Sunday as we got all of our students checked in from buses and parent drop offs, we were able to meet and greet many of our students back from the weekend. After that we got folks settled into the dorm and had a fine meal of chicken tenders and French fries, with various desserts and drinks for our dorm students. Then we were involved in multiple kinds of games and activities, from pinball, to exercise equipment and basketball pop a shot and arts and crafts in the dorm basement area. On Monday we had APH and the DOT Experience on campus as Meghan, and Savannah, and other folks from APH staff worked with dorm students on many tactile games with different feelings like Hellen Kellers hand, a braille machine from the 1940's, a game with tennis balls to make numbers and letters. Other games like remote controlled cars with different shapes, also had a tactile game with the layout of a village to design your own hometown. With many other smaller games that the students enjoyed playing . We would like to thank Savannah and all the APH staff for allowing us the opportunity to use these items which will be in the DOT Museum later in the year.
On Tuesday we had an extended day in the dorm as school was dismissed early due to inclement weather for the area. The dorm staff came in early to take care of the students as we played pinball, air hockey, pop a shot and built Lego cars and villages in the dorm basement. Then we had sack lunches from the cafeteria and then went outside to the playground and time in the recreation gym before coming back into the dorm for 8:00 pm meds and cleaning up for shower and bedtime. On Wednesday we once again came to the dorm early as school was dismissed early due to potential inclement weather. We enjoyed some extended time in the dorm basement with games, and study time also with piano and music time with paras. We had a sack lunch provided by Ms. Renee and Ms. Tamika from our cafeteria staff along with snacks and drinks. We had the students in the dorm basement once again with various games, of Pop- a -Shot, Pac- Man, Pinball, stationary bikes, and arts and crafts time with some music. Then we had sack lunches in the dorm kitchens for the boys and girls with some fun time stories of the school day and how the week has been going. At 6:30 we had elementary recreation time in the rec. gym with bicycles, balls, jump ropes, bouncy mat time and some games on our brand-new shuffleboard table courtesy of Mr. John Aaron and Mr. Earl and maintenance staff folks. We had snacks from McDonalds for all the students while we watched the movie 23 Blast which was a BIG HIT for the students about a Corbin KY football player and how the coaches, players, students, school and community worked together to make a huge impact for success for a blind student athlete.
Thursday was Zoo Day; the dorm students and staff went to the Louisville Zoo for the Light Show. It has been another fun and busy week here at the Howser dorm and we look forward to the coming weekend and want to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother's Day on Sunday. Also, a quick reminder that we only have 8 more school days left and we will want to begin bringing items home from the dorm and limiting the number of items students will be bringing to the dorm. So until next time.

2024 Summer PATH Information
Summer will be here before we know it, which means that PATH is on its way. The summer program is July 14-21 at the University of KY. The program is open to students whether they want to go to work or go on to post-secondary training when they leave high school. Students need to meet the definition of a student with a disability. The requirements are:
- Ages 14-21
- In an educational setting (public school, homeschool, private school, etc.)
- With a 504 plan, IEP, or documented disability
This year, the focus will be on STEM careers. However, the student does not need have to have a decision to go into a STEM career to attend. This is a great opportunity for career exploration. The link for applications is application here.
