At our Skate Night event on Tuesday, we had 293 skaters! Together we raised almost $1,200 for our school. Thank you for all your support for our school.

Dear Families,

Cakes and baked goods are needed for our Cake Walk at this event. This is an activity in which each time the game is played, one winner is selected and will receive a free cake or baked good to take home with them.

If you are able to donate an item to be used, please bring it by the school or send it with your child by Monday, September 25th.

• All food times must be store bought and prepackaged. Please no home-cooked items for this event.

• Suggestions are cakes, pies, packages of cookies, boxes of miniature cakes (such as boxes of Little Debbie Snacks or Twinkies).

• Please do not send individually packaged items that are not grouped together in a box, such as one cookie or a single slice of pie. Boxes and containers should be unopened when they are donated.

As we continue to focus on one Character Trait each month at Minor Elementary, September’s focus is on RESPECT. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people

and things and treating them with care.” We hope this month inspires discussions with your

family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together.

This month in their classrooms, students will be learning about resolving conflicts with others while showing respect.

They will practice using the Tree of Choices, which

is a simple tool for successful conflict resolution.

1. The Roots of the Tree:

• Identifying if the problem is big or small.
• Big problems require assistance from an adult, usually when someone is being hurt physically or emotionally.
• Small problems can be solved on their own without adult assistance.

2. The Heart of the Tree:

• Naming the emotions you are feeling.

3. The Branches of the Tree:

Make a choice to:

• Move it out (step away from the problem)
• Talk it out (talk through the issue or connect with a friend/trusted adult)
• Breathe it out (practice calming strategies before responding.)

Home Conversation Starters: RESPECT

• Can you share or show what Respect means?
• Why do you think it is important to be Respectful as a friend?

To help your child feel safe and secure in this sometimes dangerous and uncertain world, create a relaxing bedtime routine. Tuck your child in every night. This can be a cozy time for you to share a positive thought about your child. Your child can also share hopes and dreams with you.

You can also sing a bedtime song or read a story to your child. Make this time a relaxing, special time for you both.

Camps for Kids Age 7-18 Who Have Lost a Parent, Sibling or Other Close Loved One--

Camp MAGIK is pleased to announce its 2023 fall schedule of healing camps for children and

teens. Camp MAGIK (Mainly About Grief In Kids) serves children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or other close family member within the past three years. Camp MAGIK will provide an opportunity for children and teens to meet, talk, and process their grief with professional grief counselors. Time will also be spent on play and fun as a way to help the children heal from the experience of death in the family. Activities may include archery, canoeing, a ropes course, nature hikes, treasure hunts, hay rides, campfires, story-telling, and a talent show. Each camp will be divided into two groups, one for ages 7 - 11, and one for ages 12 - 17. Application forms are available at www.campmagik.org under the “join us” tab.
