The Falcon Flyer
September 13, 2024
From the Principal!
It may have been Friday the 13th but we not only survived but also thrived today! This morning we held our first official All Pro Dad's meeting at 6:45am and it was an incredible turnout! We are thankful for all of our positive role models and kiddos that made the extra early morning to attend with us. Also, special thank you to the Langer family who put in so much time, energy, and efforts to facilitate our All Pro Dad meetings and even provide a light breakfast. We also had an incredible turnout this Monday for our Grandparent Game Night! Thank you to all who came and helped spread the world to our grandparents. Thank you to our incredible PTO for making this evening possible!
Each Wednesday at Fabra is DEAR Day which means: Drop Everything and Read! Immediately following announcements, every student and staff member on campus engages in a minimum of 15 minutes of reading! This week our older grades buddied up with the younger grades for the first time and it was a beautiful sight to see and hear! Additionally, each Wednesday our staff recognizes CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness) by wearing shirts to represent our favorites schools, careers and military branches. While our Falcons are still young, it is never to soon to expose them to the many opportunities that lie ahead. We invite all our students to participate with us on Wednesdays and support their favorite college, career. or military branch!
Please read through this week's newsletter for important dates, information, and exciting things happening around campus! As always, if we can help in any way, then please don't hesitate to reach out to our front office. Have a wonderful weekend!

Fabra Family Welcome!
Join us in giving a warm Fabra welcome to Kami Davidson! Ms. Davidson is joining our second-grade team! She is new to Boerne ISD this year coming over from Cibolo Creek Elementary, but she is not new to teaching. She is in her 26th year of Education. Her classroom experience is in teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Not only has she taught in the classroom, but also worked as a Campus Instructional Technologist for 10 years. As a seasoned teacher, she brings passion and expertise to the classroom, as well as makes sure that students know that the class is a FAMILY. She will be a full-time Falcon starting Monday of next week and we will transition her students into her homeroom to be in full swing by next Wednesday. All parents of students who have been affected by the move have been notified by Mr. Latiolais and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility! Ms. Davidson, welcome to the Fabra Family! We are thrilled to have you!
Spirit Buttons for Sale!
Coach Jackson and Coach Bernhard have Spirit Buttons for sale for $5! There are a variety of styles to choose from including homecoming buttons just in time for BHS Homecoming next Friday! These are wonderful for students to be able to show their school spirit and represent their after school clubs. Spirit Buttons can be bought before school or during PE in the gym. We will also have them available for purchase during our Family Fitness Night! All proceeds go towards supporting the Fabra Dance Team!

Falcon Funds!
We have reached $3,500 of our $15,000 Goal! Thank you to those of you who have already made a contribution to our Falcon Funds! If you have not done so yet, please consider making a donation. This is the only direct campus fundraiser that we have each year. These funds go to a variety of things to help make our students experiences as great as possible. Some examples of the way funds are used are: covering fees and transportation for field trips, purchasing awards and incentive prizes, funding after school club materials, and so much more! Donations can be made via cash, check, or with a credit card online via revtrak: https://boerneisd.revtrak.net/fabra-elementary/#/list
Thank you for your consideration in making a donation!
Thank You, Falcon Fathers!

Library News and Updates!
CAUGHT READING
We've caught quite a few Falcons reading during choice time. When students are caught reading, they get a ticket with their name on it. Every Wednesday, I pick one ticket from the jar on the announcements, and that student gets to choose from some fun library swag.
Here is this week's winner, Magnolia Garza, 4th grade.

We need volunteers to shelve and repair books and check books in and out to students. If you want to volunteer in the library, here is the link to a Sign-up Genius. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions- catherine.lopez@boernisd.net

LESSONS
This week, we will begin our March Madness Lessons. The students have the opportunity to read 8 picture books and 8 chapter books by March 24th. Then, we will start voting until one picture book and one chapter book are the champions.
BOOK CHECKOUT
- Kindergarten and 1st graders get to check 1 book out each week as long as they return their book. The students will receive Ziplock bags to protect their books in their backpacks.
- 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders get to check 2 books out each week as long as they return their books. If they only return 1 book, they only get 1 book. Please remind them to use the Ziplock bags to protect their books while in their backpacks.
LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS
If your child damages a book, please have them bring it to me. I can fix a lot of things. Make sure they bring the damaged book into the library and show it to me, and we can figure out what to do about it. I emphasize to the students that I will never be mad at them over a book.
- If a book is lost, you have some options
- You can pay the replacement cost. I will send home an overdue notice with the amount on it.
- We take cash- try to have the exact amount as I don't often have change.
- We take checks made out to Fabra Elementary.
- You can also pay using a credit card on RevTrak which you can find on our website.
- You can purchase a replacement that is used as long as it is a HARD COVER and in good or better shape.
LIBRARY SCHEDULE
Your child will come to the library for 30 minutes once a week. Here is the schedule. Please make sure your child's library book/s are in their backpack on their library day.
Calling All Falcon Fathers!!!
Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
