Our Honor the Castle December's theme is "Integrity”. This week’s message for Dec. 2nd states “Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching”. This month's theme, we will share examples with our Knights that integrity is the quality of being honest and having a strong moral compass, working to model their values while being true to one's word and actions... being someone others can rely on. We look forward to our partnership by our knights, families, and staff's efforts as we finish our first semester strong!

7th grade Second Step Lesson topic for the week of 12-2-24- Influences on Self-Concept

Summary: In this week’s lesson, our 7th grade knights will learn about factors that shape and influence self-concept, including less obvious factors, such as comparison with others, messages in media, and what they believe others think about them.

At home question to ask your Knight- Tell your knight about something that shapes or influences the way you see yourself. Ask them what shapes or influences their self-concept and which influences help them feel good about who they are.

8th grade Second Step Lesson topic for the week of 12-2-24-How to Build Confidence 1

Summary: In this week’s lesson, our 8th grade knights will learn how to build confidence by preparing their physical and emotional state and by observing others.

At home question to ask your Knight- Tell your knight about a time when you watched someone do something and it helped you feel more confident. Ask your Knight to describe one of the confidence-building strategies they learned about.

At this time, families are able to request to change the learning mode for their student(s) for the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year. Students who are currently attending school in-person in can switch to virtual, and students who are enrolled in virtual can switch to in-person. If you do not wish to switch your child’s learning mode, no action is necessary.

Requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Submitting the form linked in this email does not guarantee a request will be granted. Requests will be reviewed by building and district leadership and the parent/guardian will be notified. If approved, the change will be effective for the second semester (January 6, 2025 - June 6, 2025). Please carefully consider this semester-long commitment before submitting this application, as requests to change during the second semester will not be granted. However, the District may change your child’s learning mode if appropriate academic progress is not met throughout the semester.

If you are interested in changing your child’s learning mode for the second semester, please fill out this application. You will need to submit one request for each student.

This application will close on December 16th. You will be notified by the District of your child’s application status and specific information will be provided about the switch.

The Knight Shift in December- After-School Homework Club in the media center from 3:05pm-4:00pm.

The Knight Shift after-school homework club (designated Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:05pm-4:00pm in the media center).

*Students who attend the Knight Shift must arrange for transportation home after 4pm.

The Knight Shift -“The time period after a long day of work to organize, to prepare, and to be ready for success!”

All Noble Knights are invited to attend the Knight Shift…If they have:

• Homework assignment(s) to complete- Individual tables area

• A group project needs to be worked on - Collaboration stations area

• A quiet location to read - Flexible seating area

• Please note- Outside purchased food and beverages are not permitted during the Knight Shift session.

The Knight Shift will be staffed by RMS staff member(s) during each sessions.

12/3 - Tuesday: 3:05pm-4:00pm

12/5 - Thursday: 3:05pm-4:00pm

12/10 - Tuesday: 3:05pm-4:00pm

12/12 - Thursday: 3:05pm-4:00pm

12/17 - Tuesday: 3:05pm-4:00pm

Lost and Found items are available to be claimed through Friday, December 20th. After this date, items will be donated to the FHS Thrift Store. The Lost and Found is located in the Counseling Office.

Monday, 12/2 * Boys Basketball is away against L'anse Creuse Middle School Central. 7th grade plays at 3:30pm and 8th grade plays at 5:00pm.

Tuesday, 12/3 * Yearbook, Style Statement Fashion Club, and Knight Shift will meet after school.

Wednesday, 12/4 * Animation Club will meet after school.

Thursday, 12/5 * Boys Basketball is away against Wyandot Middle School. 7th grade plays at 3:30pm and 8th grade plays at 5:00pm. Student Coucil, Gaming Unplugged, and Knight Shift will meet after school.

Friday, 12/6 * Animation Club will meet after school.

Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all students for the 2024-2025 school year.

We encourage everyone to participate. You are still welcome to send your child with a lunch from home if you would prefer.

Families are still asked to complete a Education Benefits Form, as this information is used for district funding.

The district does not allow the delivery of food and beverages from outside vendors or fast food establishments for a student’s breakfast or lunch meal. All meals are to be provided by either our Food Service program or prepared at home and sent with your student.

Outside food delivery is a safety concern. We do not want to have strangers and people that we do not know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. It also is a workload issue for office personnel. Managing multiple food deliveries during lunchtime becomes an additional responsibility for our office staff.

The District works hard to provide a variety of healthy, good-tasting food in its cafeterias, and students are always free to bring their own lunch to school. We will continue to follow our past practice of making sure students receive lunch if they forget to bring one from home.

REQUIRED PAPERWORK for all FPS sports

All students must hand in a completed MHSAA Physical dated after April 15, 2024.

All students must also go to arbiter sports and complete the on line student registration.

If either of these forms are not completed, student will be withheld from participation until both forms have been submitted.

To provide the most effective process for entering and exiting Richards Middle School, we need our families consistent help in observing the below traffic expectations:

• Our RMS bus loop is only to be used by emergency vehicles and our district’s school buses between the hours of 7:15 am through 4:00 pm.
• To help with our daily traffic flow, please follow our painted traffic arrows in our parking lot.
• In supporting our traffic flow for entering and exiting for all vehicles, please observe no standing, parking, waiting and stopping in the parking lot aisle ways.
• When exiting Richards Middle School at dismissal time, please utilize either our RMS Garfield exit, FHS Garfield exit or FHS Klein exit.

Please be aware of students, families and guests who are walking in our parking lots by obeying traffic laws, regulating your speed, and following the traffic direction arrows. Images can be found below. Please no parking or standing where you see a red x.

Our district security personnel will communicate these expectations to our families when needed. Thank you for your support with keeping RMS a safe travel area for everyone on campus.

This is a reminder to our students to ensure that you are using the appropriate area to cross the street to get to the other side of Garfield. Please see pictures below for reference of our crosswalk signs and striped area by the Richards Middle School Electronic Board. We want our students to make sure they are looking both ways and being aware of vehicles traveling on Garfield. Always wait to cross this crosswalk when the road is clear to do so.

We thank you for always being aware of your safety and traveling vehicles as you arrive and leave RMS at this crosswalk area.
