SMA Weekly Update

This year, I'm excited to offer a new chance for you to connect with me and other families. Understanding that evening PTG meetings and after-school chats might not always fit into your busy schedules, SMA has introduced a morning meet-up option. This gathering takes place right after drop-off, making it easier for you to join us.

We’ve decided to call it "BYOC with the Principal"—Bring Your Own Coffee. This week, we had 5 times more coffee than attendees, with only 6 adults attending. Perhaps the 100-degree weather played a part! We’ve received feedback suggesting we should switch to a BYOC format, especially since our next meet-up will coincide with a visit from the Hot Bevs Coffee Truck.

Here's what came out of our Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Parent 1 hour Coffee with the Principal

• New friendships were formed
• Suggestion to create a Room Parent Icon on the St. Martin of Tours Academy App
• Parents showed other parents how to use the app
• Suggestions to add a push notification for reminders (if it's a possibility)
• Suggestion to avoid assembly on the 1st day of school since littles have a difficult time saying goodbye to parents
• Totes can be too heavy - Principal explained history: folder, water bottle, and lunch only to help students manage their daily lives. (Keep it simple.) Totes help students once sports season begins. Extra items should not be brought to school. *New tote order arrived today 9/11/24

The next Coffee with the Principal is for Families of Students in Grades 3-5 on OCTOBER 7, at 8:15 am. I hope to see you there!

3rd grade had a special guest presenter on Monday from the Helix water district where students learned about damns, waterways, and ways to conserve water. Each team was challenged to build a dam with different materials. Students worked together to plan, reflect, and revise their models.

Hi there! My name is Brendan Hilgeman, and I will be your new music teacher! Yes indeed, it is the same Hilgeman as my sister Aislin, or Miss H, so I guess that makes me Mister H! I have been performing and studying music since high-school through college to now, and cannot wait to spread what I have learned to my new students. I primarily play drums/percussion and guitar. In addition, I perform in bands and with friends as often as I can. Besides music, I have volunteered fir many years with the Youth Ministry at my home parish of Our Lady of Grace in El Cajon.
