Let's CU Flourish
Newsletter to Support Well-being_12.13.23
Dear community,
This week marks the end of the Fall 2023 semester. Congratulations to all our students crossing the finish line, you made it! We are so proud of you for this tremendous accomplishment. As we prepare to usher in the new year, we invite you to take some time to intentionally celebrate how far you’ve come, and reflect:
Who is one person you are excited to spend time with during the winter break?
What type of support do you recognize you need as you look towards the new year? Who are you looking to for this support?
What is one way you can spend time outside, or getting physically active, during the break?
Pick someone you trust, and ask them, “What is one strength that you saw in me this year?”
Of the 7 types of rest, which one(s) do you need, and how will you engage with them during the break?
Who is someone that helped you get through a low moment you faced this year?
Who is someone you were able to encourage this year?
Who do you need to forgive/ask for forgiveness, as the end of the year approaches?
What is one act of kindness you will do for someone to show that you care for them before the end of the year?
What is a risk that you took this year that helped you grow?
Who is someone that honored your vulnerability this year? Let them know, and thank them.
Safe travels to all who will be leaving the area. We hope the break ahead affords you rest, encouragement, joy, love and peace!

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo_hó:no' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo_hó:no' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo_hó:no' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo_hó:no' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.
SOLACE - David Whyte
"Solace is the art of asking the beautiful question, of ourselves, of our world or of one another, in fiercely difficult and un-beautiful moments."

The Arts
Creating Justice: The Worlds We Make
What: In the fall of 2023, AAP launched Creating Justice: The Worlds We Make. The class examined structural racism, colonialism, injustice, bias, and their manifestations through the lens of architecture, art, and urban studies. It brought together instructors from the fields of art, architecture, and planning and all first-year students across AAP to explore the current state of their disciplines and begin to develop the skills necessary to work toward an equitable future.
This exhibition shares examples of instructional content and assignments from the class and highlights the work of the invited guest lecturers who all model the values of creating justice by creatively working towards building and practicing a more just, equitable, and loving world.
When: December 13 through December 23
Where: John Hartell Gallery, Sibley Dome
