St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 6 | 22 AUGUST 2024
“Lord, grant me strong courage as I go through this day.
When I am tempted to give up, help me to keep going.
Grant me a cheerful spirit when things don’t go my way.
And give me courage to do whatever needs to be done.
In Jesus’ name, Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers,
We had a very busy week with Book Week and Performing Arts. Today we had our Choir sing in the CEWA Performing Arts Festival in Balcatta. They were a credit to Mrs McDonald and the school. The students sang beautifully and their behaviour was exemplary. A huge thank you to Mrs McDonald for the work that she put in to having the Choir so well prepared for their performance.
We farewell Mrs Tilli who is leaving the school staff after almost ten years to take up a role with another employee. I would like to thank her for the untiring support of St Columba’s as a parent and a staff member. Her work ethic and presence will be very much missed by the school community. I wish her all the best with her future endeavours.
This weekend a number of our students will perform in the state RoboCup. We wish them well and thank Mr Chatt and Mrs Wilkes for preparing them for the competition. Also, a thank you to Mrs Sharon Burnett for giving up her time to attend the competition in a supervisory role for the school.
Please note that next Wednesday when the Father’s Day Breakfast is on that the Kiss and Drive will be closed in the morning. A big thank you to the P&F mums who have been organising the breakfast.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday, 20 September with the Colour Fun Day and resume school in Term 4 on Monday, 7 October. There is no pupil free day on the first day of Term 4.
God Bless and keep safe.

ADHD WA: SPARK
What is SPARK?
SPARK is a collaborative group therapy program developed by ADHD WA to support parents/carers, children and adolescents in their ADHD journey. The SPARK Program aims to increase understanding, equip parents and carers with supportive strategies and provide primary and secondary school aged children with practical skills to support them to thrive at home, school and in the community.
SPARK has 3 different programs areas split between primary school age and secondary school age groups. The 3 programs each run for 6-weeks and are facilitated by the ADHD WA clinical team consisting of Neuropsychologists and Psychologists. The program format resembles a small interactive and engaging classroom, including workbooks, breaks, and activities.
Who are the different SPARK Programs for?
- SPARK Your Support
for Parents/Carers to learn skills to support their child.
- SPARK Your Potential
Parent/Carer and child attend together and collaborate together to develop executive function skills (eg organisation and time management). - SPARK Your Resilience
Parent/Carer and child attend together and collaborate together to better understand emotions and friendships to help build resilience and social skills.
Each SPARK Program runs at least twice a year for both age groups (primary and secondary). ADHD WA Group Therapy Programs and services are for people with or without formal ADHD diagnosis.
Hi everyone,
This week I want to focus on two amazing events coming up for the remainder of this Term.
FATHERS DAY (Kindy to Year 6) - Wednesday, 28 August
Last chance to RSVP to the Fathers Day/Father figures breakfast. Our amazing Year 3 parents have planned a morning of food and fun. We look forward to seeing you there. For those asking, yes the children attend with their dad/father figure.
COLOUR CARNIVAL (PP-Year 6) - Last Day of Term 3 (Friday, 20 September)
GET EXCITED!!! The P&F are proud to be hosting the 2024 Colour Carnival. Preparations are in full swing (thanks to our amazing Year 4 parents led by Gemma and Bree). A letter will be sent to Parents/Carers in the next couple of weeks with all the details including what to wear and what to bring. Your reps will also be reaching out for a couple of volunteers from each year group (if you want to spray your children with colour, then we have a job for you).
The last day of school sure will be colourful.
Kindy Parents, don't worry, we will run a small version of the colour run on the Wednesday prior, to make it fair for all the children. More information to come.
Have a fabulous week everyone.
Hayley Mitchell
P&F President
