Playground plans progress
As warmer weather prevails and the end of school nears, we're making final plans to install the new playground. We're just pennies away (wink, wink!) from being fully funded. In an effort to ramp up excitement from the students, we'll be collecting those last few pennies on June 10 and 11. On the afternoon of June 11, the school district will be at Madison to remove the old playground (weather permitting). The Wheaton Park District plans to begin installation the following week. Thanks to everyone that has been supporting this project along the way.
Crayon and marker recycling program a success
Conservation Committee students wrapped up the year by guessing how many markers and crayons were recycled this year. The answer? Twenty four pounds of crayons and 326 markers.
The crayons went to SCARCE to be turned into new crayons while the markers were sent back to Crayola for the parts to be recycled. Most importantly students learned that we helped keep these out of the landfill and that they can make a difference doing small things.
Special thanks to 5th grade student Luca Pascente and his mom Kate Clark for taking on this project. They are both moving on to Edison next year so if anyone would like to take over this project, please let me know. It only requires collecting the markers and shipping them back to Crayola (free) and dropping off old crayons at SCARCE. Kate scheduled two pickups over the course of the school year. This is an easy job to do from home for working parents looking to help out and can be done with your child's assistance. Kate would be happy to talk to anyone interested in running this program next year. Email Lisa Thomas eal1308@yahoo.com for more information.

Buy a Taste of Wheaton wristband, raise money for PTA
Madison is working with the Wheaton Park District to raise money for the PTA. For each person that signed up for the Fun Run in Color in April, Madison received $5 - we raised a total of $310 for the the PTA! This month we are supporting the Taste of Wheaton. For each person that purchases an activities wristband through the school, the PTA will receive $3. Not only do these events support our local community, they are providing funds to support the teacher supplies. Thanks for your continued support!
Volunteer to launch Coding Club
Are your students interested in a coding club? Committed parent helpers are needed to launch a coding club for the 2019-2020 school year. Email Shannon Klopfenstein (Shannon@klopfensteins.com) if you are able to help. Ideally parents who have a coding background and would be interested in presenting a lesson will volunteer, but any parent volunteer to help keep the club time on task are much appreciated.
Save the date - Trivia Night 2019
Trivia Night is Sat., November 2, 2019. This adults-only fundraiser supports the PTA with all its proceeds. Trivia Night is a chance to mingle with friends and make new friends during a night of food, drinks, silent auction and trivia.
Sign-up to join the committee to help in various ways, from planning, getting auction prizes, communicating and helping the actual night of the event. Email mary.g.henderson@gmail.com if you are interested. Our goal is to have a meeting before school is out for summer to get a jump start on planning.
Donations to benefit Madison families
If you are looking to donate anything such as clothing, home stuff, toys, electronics, etc. please consider giving to Family Tree Resale on Geneva and Main in Wheaton (by the Jewel).
For every bag of donations they receive on behalf of Madison School, Family Tree will in turn donate a voucher to our school for a family to use to purchase items. Just drive around to the side door, walk in, and someone will help you unload your donations. Be sure to mention Madison School.

I have two children Maliah (10) will be in 5th grade and Luka (6) will be in 1st grade next school year. Before becoming a stay-at-home parent 10 years ago I was a kindergarten teacher. I grew up in the small central Illinois town of Elmwood. I enjoy baking, crafting, reading and spending time with family and friends. I love the teachers and staff at Madison. They are all dedicated to giving each child the best learning experiences. I also love all of the extracurricular activities that Madison provides and all of the PTA sponsored events throughout the year. Reach me at president@madisonschoolpta.org
Beth Tatro, president-elect
I have two children at Madison, Lily (9) and Austin (7) and Daphne (4) will be there in another year. I love the sense of community the school provides. The staff and parents are incredibly dedicated to the students and it shows. I grew up in Naperville, attended Purdue University and got an MBA from DePaul before marrying my high school sweetheart, Matt. I’m a professional in the heavy highway construction industry – usually writing about the benefits of construction and planning educational programs for engineers. In my spare time I volunteer for philanthropic and political organizations. I’m excited to take a more active role at Madison! Reach me at beth.tatro@gmail.com

I’ve been married to Bob for 15 years and have three boys, Russ (13), Ben (10) and Will (8). I grew up in a suburb of Boston before going to Valparaiso University and have stayed in the Midwest ever since. I was a recruiter in the financial services industry for about 13 years and now do some part time marketing for my husband’s Northwestern Mutual office. We moved to Wheaton when my oldest was in third grade and I have really enjoyed getting involved with the PTA and learning about all the great things they do to support the Madison community. My family has been in Wheaton for many generations. My grandmother was the city treasurer and great uncle Elmer Hoffmann was a U.S. Representative. I graduated from Northwestern University with a business degree and spent 15 years living in Chicago working in sales for cosmetic surgery, hospitality and as the director of a trade magazine. Currently I am a realtor with Keller Williams Premiere Properties in Glen Ellyn. My husband William and I have been married for nine years and our son Will (9) attends fourth grade with Mr. Grace. My hobbies currently are home improvement projects, painting and decorating. Reach me at hjlbutton@gmail.com
Katie Morris, treasurer
James and I married in 2003 and have three children. Kristin (7th grade at Edison), Jonny (4th grade), and Matthew (1st grade). I grew up in Gurnee and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. Jobs brought us to the western suburbs after college, and we ultimately landed in Wheaton in 2011. We're thrilled to be part of the Madison community. It's a great group of families served by outstanding teachers and staff. We especially love how much our kids love Madison. They've all been nurtured by great teachers here. For that we are forever thankful. I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and owner of Veritrust Wealth Management, an independent firm located in Naperville. Helping my clients reach their financial goals is a joy and a privilege. My biggest hobby is downhill skiing. If you run into me in the winter, you'll no doubt hear me talking about it. The rest of the year I like running, spending time near Lake Michigan, and generally spending as much time outside as possible. Reach me at treasurer@madisonschoolpta.org
