Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
I hope everyone is doing well. We had a lot of fun last Friday night at the Unidos Fiesta/Raffle/Auction raising money for our students. A Big Shout Out and Muchas Gracias to Elizabeth Flegel for organizing and getting donations for the Auction, to Emily Rose and Brittany Dierks for the Raffle Baskets, Cynthia Avidriz for the band, Kelly Coyne and Yessica Gallagher for decorations, Jessica Landa and Carmern Rosas for the games, and to Maestra Lily, Erica Day, and Rachel Fernandez for organizing. The food was great, there was a live band, there were lots of great items on which to bid, and the piñata was so fun!
Superintendent Baker's latest Newsletter explains well how the one time funding to help us out of the Covid pandemic is now coming to an end and the need to cut 5 million dollars next year from the LCAP. In response, we have been hard at work planning next year's site budget and site plan with the School Site Council( getting input from staff, parents, Unidos PTO, and ELAC). Our goal is to use site and PTO funding to maintain our successful intervention program, continue to provide mental health support, and to maintain our robust enrichment program. Notably, we will be able to maintain the intervention program with instructional assistants and PTO support, there will be half time counseling support prioritizing the neediest students, and enrichment will consist of STEAM/Dance/Garden classes with vocal music decreasing to once monthly. Although there will be some changes, we are confident that our students will still receive a high quality immersion education with the support and enrichment they need to be successful.
Mark your calendars for Parent Teacher conference week which will be Monday, March 18- Friday, March 22nd with Early Dismissal days at 1:25 all week(TK at 12:45). Please make note/remember the earlier pick up time at 1:25 PM for transportation purposes and so your child does not have to wait a long time for pick up. For this round of conferences, not everyone will have a conference. Teachers will only schedule conferences if they want to meet with a parent for a specific reason(s) or the parent requests a conference. If you want a conference please email your teacher(s). We will be sending the 2nd Trimester Progress Reports/Report Cards home with the students on Friday, March 15th.

TK-Kinder-1st Grade Dance Performances at Carrington Hall--BRAVO!!
TK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade Dance Performances at Carrington Hall!
The TK, Kindergarten, and 1st grade Dance Recital at Carrington Hall was a great experience our students will never forget. They had Dance class weekly during the second Trimester with Danny G as part of the Enrichment rotation thanks to everyone's financial support with Unidos PTO. Each class then chose one dance/song to present on stage at Carrington Hall. A very special SHOUT OUT to Danny G who did a great job choreographing(as always) and encouraging the students to do their best and to work together for the final presentation. Thank you to the teachers for supporting the students throughout the trimester and especially performance night as a few students were anxious about performing on stage in front of a live audience. The teachers and parents also did a great job coordinating the bright and colorful costumes that made the presentation special. A very special SHOUT OUT to parent volunteers to Michelle Smith, Jacob Creedon & Laura Bowen for helping making this show a success! If you would like to get involved in putting on the dance shows, please message dance@unidospto.org

Science Fair and STEAM Family Night: March 28th!
Science Fair/STEAM Night
The 2nd-5th grade Science Fair and Family STEAM night will be on Thursday, March 28th. Through partnerships with local science companies (Bristol-Myers Squibb and Gilead Sciences), we have been able to provide Science Fair kit projects to all children who want one in 2nd-5thgrades. These kits contain the materials that are needed for a project, together with instructions and links to videos on how to do the experiments. The goal is to have as many children participate in the science fair as possible and last year we had over 200 students participate! It is a non-competitive science fair and all participating students will receive a free pass to local museums (Tech Museum and Exploratorium). Of course, children in TK-1st are also welcome to do a science fair project of their own and any child 2nd-5th grade can also choose to do their own project instead of a kit project. If your child would like to do their own project, please have them complete the form in the STEAM Night flyer and turn it into the office by March 11th.Parents we need your help making sure your child signs up to participate. Parent volunteer Arnuj Gaggar is coordinating this event and has made presentations in all the classrooms. He needs to know how many kits and presentation boards to prepare. He also still needs more volunteers to help prepare and organize the wonderful event. Our STEAM Lab Teacher David Hopper will be coordinating the Family STEAM night. We also need volunteers for Family STEAM night: if you would be will to help do a STEAM related presentation and display, or just help set up or clean up it would be greatly appreciated.
- Science Fair Volunteers Please email Arnuj Gaggar at agaggar@gmail.com
- STEAM Night Volunteers Please email or David Hopper at dhopper@rcsdk8.net if you would like to help.

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
Child Nutrition Services Chef Challenge
