Dear Families,
As we approach the end of 2024, I want to thank you for being such an important part of the College Heights community. Strong partnerships with you, staff and teachers, and our young learners make College Heights the best school and community resource it can be.
We will miss you all over the holiday break. We wish you a joyful and relaxing time with your family and safe travels.

School News and Announcements
Registration for 2025-2026
It's hard to believe, but we are already making plans for the next school year!
Current 0-2 families:
You should have received your registration packet for next year. If you did not receive it, or if you have any questions, please reach out to Caretha Hall.
Current Preschool/Rising Pre-K families:
Pre-K enrollment/afterschool enrollment packets will be sent out after the break.
Current Pre-K/Rising Kindergarten families:
Your Pre-K student will be automatically enrolled in your neighborhood school for Kindergarten. There is nothing for families need to do at this time. We encourage you to reach out to your home school after the first of the year if you will need aftercare services for your student.
Notice of Scheduled Infinite Campus Maintenance, December 24-January 4
The payments portion of Infinite Campus will be down from December 24 through January 4 for scheduled maintenance. Families are encouraged to clear any outstanding debt prior to this period.
Pre-K Mid-Year Assessment
We're excited to share how your child is growing! On December 19, your child will bring home two special reports from their STAR assessment:
- STAR Parent Report: This report will give you a clear picture of your child's early literacy skills and how they've progressed.
- STAR Student Report: This report is designed to will show your child's growth since the fall.
If you have any questions about your child's report or their literacy development, please feel free to reach out to their teacher. We're here to support you and your child's learning journey!
Library News
Pre-K and Preschool students enjoyed stories about Hanukkah this week, with a focus on this holiday's traditions and observances. Students engaged in a lively discussion of the different holidays and celebrations that occur at this time of year.
Please come check out books and Bunny Bags to read over the holiday break! Mrs. Joiner will be available through tomorrow to check out books in person, but there is also a self checkout clipboard across from the circulation desk.

Digital Wellness - Join the Conversation
Date: Friday, February 7
Time: 8:30 a.m.
Location: College Heights Library
SAVE THE DATE to join Ilene Zeff, Media Specialist at Winnona Park Elementary School, and other families from our school community as we start a conversation about digital wellness. After sharing information about digital wellness and the impact of screen use on young children’s brains, we will reflect on screen use within our own families and discuss strategies to begin to better manage the technology in our lives. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Zeff at izeff@csdecatur.net.
Field Trip Fun
Pre-K students visited the Alliance Theatre to see the performance Knock, Knock. For many students, the biggest thrill might have been their first-ever ride on the big yellow school bus!

The students have made beautiful class quilts as part of our annual live auction fundraiser. These are available for preorder now at the PTO’s website for $40 each.
Orders for class quilts will close Saturday 12/21 at midnight. Orders will reopen next year at an increased price.

Run With the Dogs 5K Is Back!
Run With the Dogs 5K and Pup Trot, presented by Green Orthodontics, is a 21-year tradition supporting Decaturs Bulldog Boosters. In addition to being a Peachtree Road Race qualifier and a great community event, all proceeds support 19 sports programs at DHS and BHMS, which include 57 teams and over 1,100 student athletes.
Grab your friends and your pups and join this fun event on January 25 to support an amazing cause. All 5K and Pup Trot participants who register before Saturday, January 11 will receive our iconic long-sleeved t-shirt designed by artist (and Decatur lacrosse coach) Adam Pinsley. Register early for the best rates!
