Important Updates on School Safety and Dismissal Procedures
Dear Cane Bay Families,
As we prepare to send 1st quarter progress reports home this week, I've been reflecting on our work so far and the feedback we've received regarding school safety. I want to express my gratitude to those families who reached out and to our parents who personally shared their perspectives during arrival and dismissal last week.
Two key issues emerged from our discussions: the sharing of student conflicts on social media and our dismissal routines. I hope the information below is helpful for our community.
SAFETY - STUDENT CONDUCT
We are not directly involved in social media discussions, so any information about posts is often indirect. If you have concerns, please contact the school at (843-899-1857) or through Rooms/the BCSD App.
It’s important to note that there are serious consequences for students involved in actions intended to harm others. While we cannot disclose specific disciplinary outcomes, we take such incidents seriously and involve law enforcement and district staff as necessary. We also address the sharing of videos depicting violence on social media, which is why we enforce a strict No Content Creation policy.
Students have access to COBRA CONFIDENTIAL in their grade level Schoology Classrooms to report any concerns, including guidance needs, social-emotional crises, peer conflicts, or dangerous items on campus. Our counseling team will reinforce this tool in upcoming classroom visits.
DISMISSAL
To prevent traffic from backing up onto CB Boulevard, we dismiss cars and buses in waves, followed by walkers and golf carts. This process helps ensure safety as we manage the movement of approximately 1500 students. Golf cart families may choose to wait in the designated area or use the car line, depending on what works best for you.
Athletes are dismissed only when a coach is available, and students from CBM are released an hour before CBH. Those arriving at CBH before dismissal are subject to disciplinary action.
Lastly, please remember that campus hours are from 7:35 AM to 3:35 PM. We do not supervise students outside these hours. Recently, two students were involved in a fight on campus before staff arrived, which highlights the importance of not leaving children unsupervised.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.
Best regards,
Dr. Carol Bartlett, Principal

Reproductive Health Notification and Parent Information
Families of Students in Grades 6-8
The State of South Carolina requires all students in grades 6-8 to receive instruction in reproductive health based on State Standards. This week students received parent notification letters to take home. The letter, attached below, includes information on the curriculum, dates of instruction, teachers, and the process for reviewing class materials.
The letter shares how parents can opt students out of this instruction. The Opt-Out form must be submitted on paper to our front office by September 6th. Students should submit it to their Homeroom teacher and teachers will send them to the office.
NO FOOD DELIVERIES
As a reminder, our campus policy for outside food: We can not allow DoorDash, Uber Eats, or parents drop offs of fast food deliveries for students.
